Discord for Education and Risk Assessment

I'm using Discord for a tutoring platform for my college. My IT department has just decided that it's too "risky" based on some old articles on Discord about compromised PII. 

Any advice?  Is there anything new in the works regarding FERPA or contracts for educational purposes?

  My University just did this too! I Hope discord can become Ferpa compliant soon!
