disable update check (linux)
So, I don't disagree with automatic updates in general, but on Linux they pose a problem as managed through Discord itself. Discord can not auto-update itself, these updates need to come from the package manager. I recently got Fedora, pre-installed on my Thinkpad. I discovered that there was no rpm for Discord which is fine, so I tried manually installing from the tarball, and it told me something was wrong with my installation. I did not see any installation from tarball instructions. Googling found a snap install, so I used that. I logged into discord, it worked fine. After a different install of something else (gnome-shell-top-icons) to get the discord icon somewhere. I logged out and logged back in, discord checked for updates and the latest (0.0.14?) had just been released. Now discord was refusing to log me in. Today that version is in snap, so I was able to get the update, but for a short period the linux desktop client was unavailable. It would be better for linux systems to be able to disable the check, or perhaps have a soft check, that allows it to notify, but not prevent further login.

I just ran into this today, preventing me to do my WORK properly for the day. Very unfortunate.

"Must be your lucky day, there's a new update!" Except there's not. The download is still the old version so maybe don't just disable the client with no fix available? I don't mind having to do the update manually but telling me it's there, letting me trigger it and then not letting me use the application (which I could have continued to use had I not pressed the update button) is basically punishing me for updating, and will only encourage users to never update the program. And God only knows how I'm supposed to find out when it is available?

Again horrible day with discord fully blocking my dev-Team with Update-Forcing Dialoge !! :(
