Keybind Causes Loss of Text Being Edited. Please Act Now!
The Keybind for Navigate Between Channels (Option + [up/down]Arrow) causes the loss of the message being edited. It only happens to the posted messages being edited and not the new message. In my opinion, this is URGENT and IMPERATIVE to fix it.
This keybind is particularly nefarious because this accident is highly likely to happen with a devastating cost and disappointment for multiple times a day.
Main victims are fast-editing users. Option+Arrow is a widely used command for moving and deleting word by word on both Mac and Windows, as opposed to letter by letter. Option+Horizontal Arrow key is used to edit words in the same line but when the user wants to move to the line up or below, the user normally, habitually, keeps holding Option key. (Nobody lift their finger from Option only when they move to a different line.) Then this keybind kicks in. Next moment the user find himself/herself helplessly warped into another channel for no reason but a whim of poorly designed keybind.
Such accident already disrupts the user's concentration and promote frustration. But it gets worse; the user goes back to the original channel, only to find his/her edit of text is GONE and LOST FOREVER (regardless of how long and hard he/she's been editing.) The edit of posted message never gets auto-saved unlike a new message.
Solutions are easy and many:
- Disable troubling, unnecessary keybinds while editing text (Who'd want to change the server by shortcut while editing a message? The user is now cruising/browsing.)
- Auto-save posted message's text being edited just like new message (Due diligence)
- Allow users to selectively disable any default keybind. AND/OR Allow users to edit any default keybind preset. (Weed out the root)
- Or bare minimum is to warn the users about the loss of edit by switching to another server
