Here's what currently happens when you block someone on Discord:
You cease to be friends with them;
You are unable to send them a friend request;
You are unable to direct message them;
You are unable to immediately read their messages (unless you click on the box to view them)
When someone is blocked by you:
They cease to be friends with you;
They are unable to send a friend request to you;
They are unable to direct message you;
They are unable to add reactions to your messages.
You can still hear and talk to each other in voice chats, and they are still able to read your messages perfectly fine.
But there should be added features when you block someone. In my case, that user keeps on responding to my messages on the public server, even after I blocked that person.
It'll be best to never see whenever that person is chatting on servers and for them to not see my messages or at least disable the feature where they can still reply.
My use case is this, the other user is blocked because of a personal attack(harassment) and I have to interact on a server with this person. I can't request for that person to be banned because the issue happened outside the server. Every time I have to interact on that server, I am hunted by this person and I am always reminded of what he did. He always responds to my chat. And is sometimes trying to disrespect me. It's making me quit Discord overall that the mental health of people is not taken to consideration by allowing blocked users to still interact with the user who blocked them. They can still reply and see my messages normally. I can still see their chats and it's annoying that when I browse a server chat, it's riddled with "blocked message: click to view" because this person is trying his best to be annoying by chatting 2000 messages per day on that server. There's a reason why people block other users. And the current features are not helping.
It's toxic and yet you allow it.
Facebook deletes all comments and interactions with the person when you block them and there is a pop-up that says "post is unavailable to you" which prevents you from reading or encountering the blocked person's post.
Here's a list(not full) of people complaining about how ineffective the existing blocking feature is:
When you look at their timestamps, IT'S BEEN YEARS ALREADY SINCE THESE POST HAS BEEN MADE AND YOU DID NO IMPROVEMENTS OR AT LEAST MADE AN ATTEMPT TO ATTEND TO THIS MATTER. WE'RE IN A DIGITAL WORLD NOW AND PRIVACY AND MENTAL HEALTH IS A VERY IMPORTANT MATTER. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ASAP.
Important comments to take note of from other users:
With this increased blocking capability:
-User is removed from the visible list of any servers they share with the blocker.
-Blocker cannot see and does not get notified for any messages the user sends.
-User cannot access the blocker's profile or react to messages sent by the blocker.
-If a friend request is sent, the blocker will receive a warning: "This user is on your blocked list. Proceed with friend request?"
-Ability to add a reason for blocking, much like when a user is banned, for personal record keeping. ***
***If those features are too much, those suggestions are not from me, just compiled suggestions from other user's reports.
UPDATE: Hi, guys! The situation escalated with the person mentioned, now creating alt accounts to DM me. There is no way for Discord to confirm anyone's identity. But I know those alts are him because it's harassing me and says things only the person would know and say. I raised this concern to Discord Trust and Safety and it's been a week and they won't do anything about it. Even if they ban that person permanently from the platform, he'll just keep on creating alt accounts. IP address bans are easily bypassed. This person is from another country, can anybody suggest a way so that this person stops causing stress and serious harm in my life and those around me? The server moderators can't also do anything about it. Even if it's against Discord TOS and Community guidelines.
