More and more intrusive and creepy “features”

When I started using Discord, I was so happy to have a place to hang out with friends without the creepily targeted ads and the very obvious data mining of other social media sites. As time has gone on however, I’ve noticed targeted advertising on Spotify as well as many other unlinked and seemingly unrelated sites not just from text but from *voice calls.* I’ve been more and more uncomfortable with using Discord, and the request to have access to contacts with this recent update has pushed me to make this post. I know nothing will change, but I wanted to voice how deeply disappointed I am in what seemed to be a great service from a really cool small company becoming just another creepy predatory data mine. Maybe it’s been that way from the beginning and there just weren’t as many partners or they were more sneaky about it, I don’t know, but I know I’ve gone from being a supporter and doing everything I could to get my friends on it snd being an enthusiastic nitro sub to warning people about how sketchy it is. You could’ve been different, Discord, I couldn’t feel more let down.
