Splatoon branding of discord
I wasn’t sure what possessed the discord team to make the logo characterless and more robotic-controller looking, or why a cute logo in an adorable colour scheme needed to be made lurid and eye-burning, but having seen the new font, I believe I understand now. Discord is not attractive enough to children. You needed to use Splatoon! as inspiration to attract more users and you’re banking on people over the age of 18 not immediately leaving because of some poor colour choices. I understand but it doesn’t make it feel any better.
I will say I joined as a non-gamer and the reason non-gamers don’t use discord is because we don’t know what it is or why it’s better than generic competitors like Skype. My gamer friends mentioned it once or twice, but never said why it was worth signing up. When someone finally explained how smooth it felt compared to Skype... well, I’ve used discord daily since. You would attract new users using your reputation for stability and smooth interfaces, the control and freedom over creating servers as tiny communities and connectivity in a time where people have been driven apart, if you were to just get the word out. You need marketing not re-branding.
Imagine school on a sundae? What does that even mean? You don’t seem to be targeting people with the intellect to enjoy puns (it’s also too meaningless to be enjoyed by those who do, because the image is a book chasing a sundae?). Is discord meant to feel like school for the weekend? I don’t know what I’m missing here, but I don’t get your messaging.

discord is alienating its core userbase while trying (and failing) to enter mainstream markets and it WILL be the end of discord. 2016 user here cancelling my nitro subscription and encouraging all users to stop supporting this platform
