The New Logo Doesn't Represent Discord.
I like to believe I'm more reasonable when these kinds of rebrands pop-up. But I think Discord really missed the ball. This is a critical review of the redesign.
-Discord made these changes to try to brand towards a more mainstream audience. I find it ironic how Clyde (the little discord robot logo), looks more like an Xbox controller than ever. Really marketing towards those non-gamers. I overall don't have a problem with the logo itself, I just find it really funny to be honest.
-The new Blurple is overly vibrant and bright and presents accessibility issues, especially when using the website & social media, the support forum, and most importantly, the App. The OG Blurple was perfectly fine, and was a nice color we all loved to look at for hours at a time. Another thing I want to note is how much the community cherishes OG Blurple, we literally cover our profile pictures and servers with the color on Discord's anniversary every year to show our appreciation to the developers and the app. It feels like a complete slap in the face to put this redesign on Discord's birthday.
-Most importantly the Font. It screams childish, unprofessional, styled like my 3rd grade self messing with MS paint's text tool. The font itself is really wonky and completely contrasts the uniform sleek original font.
-The Font itself has a lot of inconsistencies as well, that are much more noticeable than the "Asymmetrical Clyde Logo". The overall word looks squished down, which again looks like a classroom project more than a professional logo. The heights of letters don't match or compliment each other, the holes and cutouts in letters (c,o,d) don't match whatsoever, the "i" looks like it came out of an entirely different font and is the tallest letter out of the whole word. Not to mention the lack of the small triangular cutout in the D, one of Discord's signature branding
Overall, I really don't like this redesign. It doesn't fit Discord. It makes Discord look more like it's for children with it's more "unprofessional" text and brighter vibrant colors. It completely contrasts what the app is trying to be: a simple way to chat for Teens and Adults.

I agree, this is backwards in design. the original was designed well and consistently while also representing a tech environment with its clean angles and symmetry. it is now a Dyslexia font. The new logo is good, the font is disgusting

I retract my comment on the purple, when you have an entire website dedicated to that high saturated blue, you are causing eye strain to even look at the page. Even as an icon it's painful on the eyes, compared to edge, steam, even photoshop.

As a digital artist and designer myself, I completely agree that this rebrand completely fails to impress.

The font in the new logo? Slightly unnerving.
I prefer the bold look of the previous logo...
