As a graphic designer with me having an imprint on this app, the new logo/rebrand is awful
I don't like this rebrand. I make graphics now and then, and looking at the new logo next to the old logo is like looking at a crappy CalArts cartoon next to a beautifully animated show. The new logo is ugly and soulless. I can explain.
First of all, the main logo bit, the monster controller, barely resembles the monster controller, it resembles more of a controller than a "monster controller", and looks very bland and not as unique as the original logo's monster controller.
Second, the font is AWFUL. The original Discord logo font was a beautifully handcrafted logo made by the team. But now it's been replaced by what looks like the words Discord in the Arial Black font squished down. It's lazy and looks horrendous if you compare it to the old logo.
And finally is the color scheme. You darkened the "blurple" color, and it looks super ugly compared to the original color scheme on the original logo. The original color scheme screamed "Discord!", this just screams "I'm a children's toy!", and it's awful as a result.
To top it all off, Discord's social media team are defending this logo, and being all "It's okay you will get used to it" and "Be one with change", and that alone is enough to anger this entire userbase, with them only replying to positive comments. We are not being cyberbullies or anything, we are mad and being honest about an update we don't like, because the new rebrand doesn't resonate with this app at all compared to the original logo. It doesn't work, and nobody can't defend this.
To be short, the new Discord rebranding is not good, and social media is making it look like it's the future, and silencing us people who are not okay with it by replying to people who are apparently OKAY with this update, which is about 10% of the platform. Meanwhile, us 90% are not okay with this, and I hope Discord reverts back to the old branding and apologizes for this Order 66-level tomfoolery. This is unacceptable.

Beautifully stated!!
Much better than my additional thoughts of: Just bc discord turned 6 doesn't mean we need to attract 6yr olds. Oh, you found the thick crayons and decided to make everything big and bold now.
But yes, away from the snide remarks I now have after seeing their social media responses well then I can be snarky back.
I'm not sure what research was conducted to see where to go with this, but you don't want your branding and logo to blend in and look the same as everything else out there. The bold everywhere and brightness hurts my eyes. Not everything has to stand out even more. The reactions are now boldened with a box, the tags for names are now brighter, roles are bold, channel names are bold at the top, even names in DMs are bold at the top.
Was there a test group? Did the test group get nitro if they agreed or something? Instead of getting defensive and scoffing off the userbase, listening to them would do some good.14 -
I couldn't have put it better, I fully agree with you.

As a not graphic designer but a user a with modicum of common fking sense, I "am fully agree with his Opinion" too.
Please find the person who wasted everyone's time with this rebrand (and you now having to undo it) and have them drug out into the street and shot. Otherwise they'll just do this same thing to whatever other silicon valley company they slither off to after they've been fired.0
