It Hurts to Use Discord & Have it Installed
Yes. It’s ANOTHER ONE of these posts. What’s so unique about this one?
Discord just updated for me. Within using it on and off for about an hour, I now have a migraine, am extremely nauseous, and my eyes aren’t focusing well and really hurt. I woke up in the middle of the night to check in with my friends, only to pretty much immediately jump wherever I could to join the mass of people complaining about this update.
I can’t escape it. On my iPad, I had brought Discord down to my footer of my apps, so that I would always be able to access it no matter what page I’m on. I will now be literally making a new page for it in my apps* because it hurts so much to even have it on screen — it both draws my eyes away from other apps and is impossible to look at. The only reason I’m not uninstalling it entirely is that it’s the only way I have to communicate with the majority of my friends.
I have turned my tablet to night shift to try to mitigate these problems (a yellow filter to help with blue light) but it barely helps and I’m better off not using Discord at all. If I was on a Nitro subscription (I’m using a gifted 1-year atm) I would immediately unsubscribe.
I liked Discord because it used a color palette that was easy on my eyes, with a dark mode palette that didn’t cause eyestrain like many do for me (black background, white text = ouch). This has removed a lot of the reasons why I preferred it and would even ask others I knew in other places if they wanted to move to it.
It hurts to use the new Discord. This is not a joke. This is not “joining in on the backlash hype”.
This Discord rebranding is the opposite of “friendly”.
I am in pain.
*EDIT: I can’t even do this and have it work. It appears in my recently used. It hurts. It hurts.

I agree with this 100%. I'm autistic, and I also have ADHD and various learning/intellectual delays. Discord has always been pushing this kind of nonsense and making it harder. I still haven't forgiven them for removing those lines either. When they were told about this before, they pretty much threw it under a bus. They expect us to "get used to it" and move on. Well, sorry Discord... but autistics and other people with health issues do NOT move on from this... especially anyone on the spectrum who really don't like dealing with changes!
