Why is Discord making a subsciption trap?

I know.. the title is a bit provocative. But it's kinda true concerning the three free nitro month on Epic Games.

For all of you how don't know about it: Discord is offering three free month of Nitro until June 24, 2021 for everyone who never bought nitro themselves. 3 month of free Nitro, that sounds nice! Where is the Problem?

First, why only for users who never bought nitro? I know that Discord can't give it to everyone, I mean they would have no income for three month. So that's quite reasonable. But it is also a punch in the face for all the users who supported Discord with their Nitro subscription.

But the secound problem is even worse. After adding a payment method to your account for activating Nitro you also have to cancel it manually. That's basically a subscription trap. And even if it's the users own fault, I don't think that's the right way. And yes, Discord is talking transparent about this, but even after all this, there will be a lot of people accidentally paying for Nitro after the three month.

In my opinion, Discord always have been the cool and chilled start up, not caring so much about money and with a goal: connecting people and being a user friendly program. And they reached it, there are a lot of users like me who use Discord every day and enjoy it. But things like this are pushing Discord more and more over to old and boring ones, who only see the money. It's amazing that you can provide such a good service for free and of course you have to make money somehow, but please not in this way.

I am Furious about it too ive been paying for like a Year so that i can boost and also have nitro fetaures and now everybody has it for 3 months free while ill pay in total 30€, its like shitting on old permanent Subscribers and only caring about the new ones. They could at least gave some special fetaures to old subscribers.

Yeah I agree. There is literally no way to distinguish between an actually loyal Nitro subscriber and a subscriber who was able to get it for free from a desperate company trying to get more users on their unnecessary service

A small update: I couldn’t get the offer because I bought Nitro classic one time in 2019. Or, at least I thought that I couldn’t get it.

But just for testing I tried it anyway. And to my surprise the payment method was accepted, but after finishing the 'order' there was an error. 'This code has already been used' or something like this.
And I also didn’t get Nitro on my account. But I was still wondering why it took me through the payment method process, even when my account doesn’t work for the offer. But after a few hours a friend wrote me that he could see the nitro badge on my profile, and after a few hours I could see it too. The offer worked, I now have nitro for 3 months for free. I don’t know why, but it’s kinda cool. I hope it works for you guys too.

So, if you only bought nitro classic, you may still try it!
