Why do we need to put billing information if we want to claim free 3 months epic games nitro?

Hey yesterday my friend sent me his epic games nitro code since he could not use it but when I tried to claim it, it says I need to put billing information. If i can cancel it anyway why do I need to put  my billing information? Honestly it is stupid. As my friend sent it to me as a gift because my birthday was a few days ago. Please I want nitro.

  Hi from what I've learned from some users. This is for the following reasons. 
  Make sure you ever buy a Nitro. It's just a guess, it's not true. The second is more likely.
  When the next action, so you do not have it again. In my opinion, it is such a "Protection" that everyone does not have a Nitro on one card
