Bulletin Board channel system
Hello, I've seen somewhat similar suggestions to this but they aren't quite what I have in mind, so I'm bringing this up here. I've worked in multiple gaming communities in the past, many of which have moved to Discord.
However, a consistent issue that has made things difficult for these servers is managing resources. Oftentimes, resource channels are produced, which can get extremely long become difficult to navigate, even with a search function.
My current way of mitigating this is to produce a Google Sheets document and simply have a channel with the link in it. I personally dislike this, as people *really* don't like clicking off Discord to access a hub to access something else. It's too many clicks for the average low-attention span user. It's definitely the best way I have, but it's unwieldy and definitely not user-friendly.
An alternative form of management is, of course, pins, but these are a bit too out of the way, I don't see users reading these to find resources when there's nothing saying "resources here!". Additionally, the 50-pin limit is exceedingly easy to reach in larger servers that have been around for over a year. There's also the matter of messages other than important resources taking up space. It also doesn't solve the inherent issues with the list format. Overall, pins are unfeasible.
So, my proposal is to make a bulletin board-style channel where messages are formatted in what's similar to Sticky Notes on Windows or Trello. Users could submit notes to the board, in which they're displayed with a grid. This is a far better way of displaying resources than the list format messaging forces, thus making it easier to sift through content. It's also much better for users with poor attention spans, as not only do they not have to leave Discord, it also minimises scrolling.
I'm not sure how you'd work with permissions here; possibly make it something normal users can't add to by default? This could make it too specific, though. There's a lot to think about here and I'm not sure how to solve it. Perhaps something with server size could be the direction? Maybe 100+ users = need role?
I believe this feature would have more uses outside of gaming communities. For example, businesses and schools could make ample use of something like this, or you could even use it for scheduling. There's definitely a wider scope than my initial thoughts.
Thank you for your time!
