Introduce "Phase" Spectator Mode for Deafen/Mute in Voice Chats
Implementation of a new feature called "Phase" for Discord's voice chat functionality.
This feature would provide users with a convenient way to engage in spectator mode while participating in a voice chat, granting them the ability to selectively mute and deafen themselves from specific participants. By enabling the "Phase" option, users can control their audio input and output settings in order to optimize their experience as interactive spectators.
Functionality:
-
Muting Yourself for Others: When users activate the "Phase" option, it automatically mutes their microphone for all participants in the current voice chat who have not selected the "Phase" option. This ensures that other users cannot hear them, allowing for a seamless spectator experience.
-
Hearing Users with "Phase" Option: Users who have enabled the "Phase" mode can still hear and interact with other participants who have also selected the "Phase" option. This enables communication and collaboration among spectators, allowing them to discuss the ongoing activity while maintaining an immersive experience.
-
Variable Volume Control for Non-"Phase" Users: The "Phase" mode allows users to adjust the volume of participants who have not chosen the "Phase" option. By default, the volume is set to 75%, providing a balanced soundscape between the spectator's conversation and the ongoing voice chat. This setting ensures that the spectator can follow the main conversation while engaging with fellow spectators.
Use Cases:
-
During Gameplay: Consider a scenario where a user is playing a game like Among Us and happens to be the third player to die. The user still wishes to communicate with the other dead players without interfering with the ongoing gameplay. By enabling "Phase" mode, the user can join the spectator conversation while remaining muted for the players still participating in the game.
-
Out-of-Game Spectating: In certain situations, users may find themselves spectating a game or event with other spectators. They might want to engage in a separate conversation with fellow spectators, exchanging insights and observations while still being able to hear the voice chat of the players involved. By activating the "Phase" mode, users can participate in the spectator discussion while having the flexibility to hear the ongoing voice chat from non-spectating users.
Setting Additions:
- Channel Setting: default to "Phase" option for when a user joins a channel.
- Hotkey: option for creating a hotkey to enter or leave "Phase" modality
Overall, the introduction of the "Phase" spectator mode in Discord would greatly enhance the experience for users who enjoy spectating games or events while still wanting to engage in selective communication. It offers a practical solution for situations where users wish to remain involved and connected while maintaining a clear distinction between participants and spectators. This feature will undoubtedly contribute to Discord's ongoing commitment to providing a versatile and immersive platform for its users.
