Cannot recover closed DMs why - discord support response uninformed
So I sent this message to discord tech support:
If I accidentally close a DM there is absolutely no way on earth that I can retrieve it if I don't know the user's name or id if they aren't a friend. This is RIDICULOUS!!!! I should be able to search for a phrase or similar.
I have arranged for sales of parts for my 3D printers in the past and lost them because I have no clue who I was speaking to and this is a pain in the bottom.
Please can you fix this ASAP.
I’ve even tried to use single letters of every letter in the alphabet to search usernames and bring up individual names and still not found my messages. This is AWFUL. Please fix it ASAP.
Thanks,
Oliver
This was the response:
Hey there Oliver,
Thanks for reaching out!
I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties with your Discord search bar for not being able to fetch some recent data.
Sadly, some data may not be searchable or become unsearchable. At this time, there's no way to remove or bypass this restriction. Sadly, we cannot provide further details for privacy reasons.
Rest assured that we highly value user-shared experiences for consideration when deciding on future updates. Our team is always working to provide a better experience for all users. I'll make sure to pass your sentiment along to the team.
You can also submit this at our official feedback page here: https://dis.gd/feedback.
Apologies for not having an immediate solution for you during this time, but please let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be more than happy to help!
Best,
Leah
Now this is inaccurate and a deeply uninformed understanding of how discord works. I was actively communicating with an individual and have done so with other individuals too. Therefore, any privacy concerns are utterly moot. Literally the ONLY reason I cannot continue to communicate with said individuals is because I clicked the cross to close the DM by ACCIDENT!!!
We need a search facility for ALL messages ever sent by DM (unless of course you are blocked or the individual doesn't accept DMs but that doesn't apply here).
IMHO the REAL reason discord won't do this is absolutely NOTHING to do with privacy and completely everything to do with the fact that they don't want to do the technical development for the job. One solution might be to only allow this facility to Nitro subscribers, perhaps? I am said customer.
Therefore, Discord, please can you look into this issue properly and stop giving me nonsensical bull**** responses about privacy which simply do not apply here.
Thanks and I look forward to a better client soon.
Kind regards,
Oliver
