Getting mentions to link in channel desciptions/ forum guidelines

I'm setting up a community server and working on creating all the descriptions that will ensure people know where to post things, but I simply can't figure out how to make channel & role mentions to link in channel descriptions & forum guidelines. 

Things I've tried:

• the channel name with just the hashtag in front of it (e.g. #chatter)
• the channel name with the hashtag in angle brackets
• the channel ID with the hashtag and an ampersand  in angle brackets (this is what you have to do to get embedded mentions to work in Probot, so I decided to see if it would work here)
