why does Discord allow periods in user names when they cause conflicts with @mentions

Just as the title says…

When attempting to @mention a user with a period (".") contained within their user name, it will read as plain text in the posted message and will not activate an actual mention for a notification if the @mentioned name is at the first position on a new line. 

It mustbe inthe firstposition ofthe firstline, orthere mustbe textor spacesadded beforethe name. 

Also, thisfeedback formis glitches becauseit won'tauto-space betweenevery otherword, andi gottired ofgoing backto addthem manually.
