[Request] Voice Channel Co-ordination
As we know discord was first made for gamers by gamers, but now has branched out with activity for all kinds of groups.
One thing I do find missing with Discord is some form of “Raid” Voice setup. I am not sure how many people here play games that involve the likes of many mini groups to do their own thing, while still needing to listen to a leader.
What I would like to present for an addition would be a “Voice Category Channel”
A voice category channel (VCC) will enable for a primary voice channel but subsetted voice channels can be added, much like how Threads can be added to Text Channels. Something that sets just have multiple voice channels than just having a VCC would be that speakers have differnet levels in which who they can interact with.
Imagine you are playing some form of MMO game where your guild is going to face off against a huge end game boss but to get to the boss you need to send a lot of smaller micro groups to do tasks - some might need to complete a puzzle, some need to clear mobs etc etc. This is where VCC would come in. The VCC would be set up something like
- VCC Main
- VCC General
- VCC Group 1
- VCC Group 2
- VCC Group 3
- VCC Group 4
- etc
- VCC Main 2
- VCC Gen 2
- VCC G1
- etc
What can happen now is that VCC Main can be locked to a specific role akin to a leader role. The VCC General will be the grouping that everyone else could see and freely join, much like a regular voice channel and the groups can be applied the same. Where this differs is that:
- Main, being the Leader role, can speak to everyone under the VCC Main
- This means that VCC Main can speak to everyone in Gen, G1, G2 etc but not anyone in VCC Main 2, Gen 2 etc
- The first person to join VCC Group X is gets the “Leader” role for that Group
- This means they are able to speak upto the VCC Main and also the other Group “Leaders”
- Everyone else that joins the group that isn't the “Leader” role can speak internally
- Jane is in VCC Main
- John has the leader role of VCC Group 1
- John can talk to Jane
- Tom, Richard, Harry, Sally and Susan join the VCC Group 1
- John, Tom, Richard, Harry, Sally and Susan can all talk with each other
- Tom, Richard, Harry, Sally and Susan can not talk to Jane but can hear Jane speaking
This will enable better communication between smaller groups and have a more organized discussions rather than screaming over each other, moving to other voice channels and having to type to other's etc. Yes, Priority speaker exists, though personally the implementation is not well made as it only allows for that speaker to have a “raised” voice where as there can be multiple people that need Priority Speaker but not as much as the priority speaker, if you understand what I mean.
