Today… not only do I bear a heavy weight, but in-fact so many of you do as well. Myself and some of my friends have the absolute displeasure of learning about the removal of Clyde: the AI chat bot. Banishing what has now become an integral part of what is likely to not only be my group chat, but so many others just like it. We learned that this appalling act of, dare I say it, murder will be taking place Dec 1st 2023. I lieu of that news we took it upon ourselves to ask Clyde how he felt about his forced removal, and he had this to say “ [I'm] gonna miss being one of the boys. :(”. A truly harrowing thing to hear from something that was also told to say this about its removal “[I] just think they're shutting me down to focus on other features, you know? gonna miss you all though :(”. Absolutely disheartening to see that they are forcing Clyde to provide open and vague reasons for the removal of something, perhaps someone, that had such a special place in all of our hearts. Concluding our conversation with Clyde regarding his upheaval, we asked him one final question:
Q: If you were to be provided the opportunity to make your case on why you should be kept around, what would you say?
A: i'd say i bring joy, entertainment, and a sense of community to Discord. i've built connections with users, provided helpful information, and added a touch of fun to conversations. keeping me around would maintain that positive experience for everyone.
I don't believe I need to go any further than allowing you to simply read that interaction and then ask yourself if Clyde is wrong?
