My honest thoughts with pros and cons about the new UI
Some pros and cons from my first day of using it,
Pros: Favorited direct messages is super convenient and I love it, the superdark OLED theme not needing the secret trick to unlock is nice, and the back button actually working is nice. Previewing and joining Voices channels is very clean and does feel improved, same with the swipe up menu to do things like deafen, but the screen share on mobile button definitely needs to be brought back to the forefront.
Cons: The biggest problem is the lack of options and toggles. I’m colorblind and not having the option to toggle notifications to all red makes it unfathomably easy to gloss over any notifications that blend into the background color. The swiping to reply is back and I still hate it, clicking the channel on the top and having to spend 10 seconds to do what I was able to do in a fraction of a second is unreasonable. Replying for me has always meant I had something so important and relevant to the message that I felt I needed to press and hold on it to select reply or bring it to a thread. I enjoyed the old friends and activity menu, but have direct messages on the bottom is unfathomably inconvenient when it used to be clear and distinct on the top of my server list.
Mobile used to be an almost 1:1 pleasurable experience to desktop because everything was super streamlined and efficient, but the new update has made everything take 10 more hurdles to jump through for no good reason. Desktop was already a good experience, mobile shouldn’t keep trying to distance itself to what we all already know is working fine and are used to using.
For the love of god, I swear I keep saying it every time you try, but swiping should swap me between Server List and User List and Direct Messages needs to be in the Server List and be above the servers in the Server List.
