Bugs and slowness
Hey Discord Team,
just wanted to give a brief run-down on the issues my and my husband's phones are experiencing with the new UI. We have tried clearing storage and cache, updating, uninstalling and reinstalling, reducing storage use on our phones, and closing other apps. Nevertheless, the following things continue to be problematic. :(
Here, Buggy Buggy
Bug: Sometimes, sent text does not appear in the conversation after hitting send, but instead remains in the typing box. However, when the app is closed and reopened, your sent text will appear as many times as you happened to hit send. This happens most often when the app has been open in the background and is brought back into primary use.
Steps to recreate: Send a message. See that the send button does not appear to actually send your message. Hit the button as many times as you like. Close the app, reopen it. Observe the number of times your message was actually sent.
Bug: Sometimes, switching channels/messages does not change the conversation pane. This happens most often when the app has been open in the background and is brought back into primary use.
Steps to recreate: Go to any conversation pane in either channels or messages. Switch to another conversation within the same function. The text in the conversation pane will not change even though the selected channel or message has changed.
Bug: Often, when pressing a reply in the phone drop-down menu to return to Discord, the Discord app will load but not show the new replies in the conversation pane.
Steps to recreate: Receive a reply that appears in your phone UI drop-down menu. Press it to open Discord. Observe that the text from the drop-down (and any subsequent replies from other users) does not appear in the conversation pane.
General (Not Corporal) Lag
Opening server lists, message lists, and channel lists all experience varying degrees of lag/jitter. Emojis sometimes take ages to load. Granted, our phones are a bit outdated, but they have no issues with slowness otherwise unless they're due a restart.
A Big Request
Guys, it's time to consider either more ways to turn down Discord's memory usage via bell-and-whistle reduction options, or a dedicated Lite app. Discord a few years ago was a total delight to use, but now it's clunky in the same way Messenger is. More functions are great, but don't let it roll into a case of enshitification. Focus on functionality, bug fixing, and reducing app bloat by removing unused code with updates. You've got this!
Thanks,
Mara and Zin
