profile effects & accessibility options.
Tl;dr: Allow users to disable profile/icon effects of other users.
Hello,
I don't dislike profile effects — I think they can be cute and charming. In that very same measure, however, they can also be anywhere from irritating to headache inducing and causes difficulty reading profiles, or, in a more extreme scenario, a serious health risk.
I do not dislike the less intrusive ones — for example, ones with just stars or vines around the borders (which I genuinely like especially in the lofi collection), or many of the fantasy icon border options have minimal animations and are overall more simple and pleasant to look at. I really, really loathe that I essentially get flashbanged by the vast majority of profile effects. For example, the sushi effect under the anime collection. Thankfully these are just eye strain for me, and I don't really encounter any flashing lights which is considerably more concerning than simple eye strain. At best it's unpleasant to look at and feels intrusive.
There are posts on here from 7+ months ago asking for the option to turn off others profile effects that they have enabled. No such change has been made. I would love to be able to have two separate options for turn off icon effects and profile effects, respectively.
Accessibility options are incredibly important, and I am grateful that discord has implemented many more as opposed to countless websites that don't even think to do it. Please implement this feature.
Also, the new mobile UI as of 5/22/24 looks like garbage. Please revert it.
