I found myself constantly harassed on this app.
Can we make the blocking system better?


Basically, blocking messages is not enough.
People can still harass you through their profile, either by their pfp, status or even activity like Spotify (playing songs which names harass you) It's very annoying when done repeatedly, and there is no way to hide it. I've seen numerous people doing that. It's crazy how people would do anything to bother you.


I'm not talking about a person in your friends list. I'm talking about a person in a server.
When you block a person in your friends list, he is gone forever and they can't add you back.
When being in a server however, even if you block a person you can't see his messages
but you can see his profile.
I don't want to leave the whole server because of few people!

In order to fix this I have some suggestions

Current Blocking

- Hides messages from the person and leaves a system message with a show message button
- Removes the person from friend list (If you have them in yours)
- The person cannot contact you
- You can still see the person's profile picture and what he writes on his profile if you are in a server with him (with that being said he can still annoy you)
The only way to stop harassment from them annoying you through their profile is to leave the server
Not very useful if you like the place, and you have to leave because of a few people

 

Updated Blocking

- Hides messages from the person and leaves a system message 
but doesn't give an option to show the message. I think this is far better because
since you blocked them, you don't want to hear from them.
- Removes the person from friend list (If you have them in yours)
- The person cannot contact you
- Hides the person's profile (that includes profile pictures, cosmetics, banners, statuses, activities and everything) and displays them as offline if you are in a server

    I like this, but the "Hides messages from the person and leaves a system message 
    but doesn't give an option to show the message" should be optional. A setting for showing the message would be good.

    In my opinion, the current blocking system is fine. But when it comes to harassment, this idea is good. If Discord ever plans to add this, I think they should include an option to hide blocked people's profiles in settings. Also, keeping the 'Show message' feature should be optional because the blocked person might be sharing personal information about you, like your credentials, IP address, or other details if they know you, or other sorts of harmful stuff about you.

    It is still good to remain cautious, that is why the ‘Show Message’ feature shall not be removed.

    - should still be an option as they could reveal/send personal information about you, checking messages has to be left as an option

    - Hides the person's profile (that includes profile pictures, cosmetics, banners, statuses, activities and everything) and displays them as offline if you are in a server

    - you can do that already right now: leave any server where that person is as well, ban them from server you own. (and of course block)  - you will probably never see them again

    Leaving the server will solve the problem but what if I like the place?


    Just as I've said I don't want to leave the whole server because of one person harassing me through their profile.
    If it's your server banning someone that is harassing you will definitely solve the problem.


    But what if the server is not yours?


    Well you can tell the moderators to ban the person but not every moderator will do
    what you tell them.  In fact I don't even know if that's enough to ban them since every server has rules about when to ban a person.


    Wouldn't be more easier to just block the person and hide his profile than contacting the moderators and explaining the whole situation.
    And do you think the person will stop when the moderators say to him to stop?

    I believe having a feature like this is very important and it gives you much more privacy than the current blocking.
