Community Server Channel Requirement Prevents Verification Systems
TL;DR: Please remove the ‘five channels that everyone can send messages in’ requirement from community servers, as it prevents server owners from putting security measures in place!
Hello! I'm the current owner of two public Discord servers, both of which have been set up as community servers (though they are not yet discoverable). I've enjoyed the experience overall; most of my moderation options are great and have helped significantly with managing my servers. However, a few of the community server requirements have prevented proper moderation and have allowed more bots and spam accounts to join - more specifically, the requirement that everyone must have access to at least five channels.
I absolutely appreciate why the requirement is there; without the ability to speak in any channels, it is difficult to participate in a server. However, both of my servers have received an influx of bots and spammers, some of which post scam links or very inappropriate content. One of the typical solutions to this is to require users to complete a Captcha through a bot or to go through some other verification process to gain access to the server's channels, which I have attempted to use - however, all of these methods rely on all channels being private and the bot or mod involved adding a role to the new user once they have been verified, which is impossible under community server requirements.
I ask that this requirement be lifted from community servers, or at least be removed under certain circumstances. Preventing server owners from locking members out of their servers is important, but keeping bots and spammers out is crucial to keeping a server alive.
Thank you!
