mute all notifications except dms
-
I want to be able to have unread message indicators on servers but only get SOUNDS from DMs. Turning off the message sounds from servers was the very first thing I did when I installed the app because that's seriously obnoxious. However I frequently miss DMs because the desktop app timeout that pushes the notification to my phone doesn't always correctly recognize when the desktop app is idle. There are also times when my phone is in another room. I have never once wanted noises from messages coming through in servers, but I really need the DM notifications.

Even when I mute notifications I still hear them pop up from Discord no matter what.

Yes! The noise is very distracting when im doing school work! I went into setting to even try to mute it but it is still making noise!

This needs to be implemented ASAP. I'm constantly getting spammed by notifications I do not want and it feels like a game of whack-a-mole hunting down channels to mute. Mute All / Mute All Except DMs needs to be a global option and frankly available as the default option. We should opt in to notifications, not opt out one at a time on every server we join.

My preference lies in having visual indicators for unread messages in servers, while relying solely on sound notifications for direct messages (DMs). To avoid the annoyance of message sounds from servers, I disabled them right after installing the app. However, I've noticed that I sometimes miss DMs due to the desktop app's timeout feature, which inconsistently detects when the app is idle and pushes notifications to my phone and laptop test. Moreover there are instances when my phone is in another room, making it impractical to rely solely on sound alerts. While I never felt the need for audible alerts for server messages, it is crucial for me to receive notifications for DMs.

For me, this is extremely important since I do sometimes get time-sensitive direct messages from other people.
However, I usually turn on DnD because many of the servers I am in (capped at 100, though many are muted) ping me in total at least 20-30 times a day when I don't need to view that notification immediately. This causes me to miss the time-sensitive messages.
I think being able to mute at least server pings separate from DMs would be an incredibly useful feature. It would be especially useful for those people that prefer Discord over SMS for communicating with people they know IRL.

You set notifications for each server individually and disable ALL notificatinos, including mentions. That should solve your problem - then you'd get notifications only from personal messages from your friends and you can change your status to online.

4 years, and is this still not a thing?

Yes how can you do this? Is this available yet?

It is also distracting when I am actually talking to my friends on Discord (eg we are playing a game). I would like to be able to mute /all/ Discord notifications, because when I'm doing schoolwork or playing a game with my friends I don't need to hear all the Discord notifications that I can just check on when I'm done with whatever I'm doing.

It seems like a product issue, a few/any of the documents from Android form isn't working as expected. This kind of issue happens when the product didn't get overhauled totally or was hindered in the middle.
To determine this issue, you need to play out an industrial facility reset of the telephone. Ensure the battery is charged over 80%. Likewise, save your significant information/media in an outside stockpiling since you are going to free every one of the put away information in the telephone stockpiling.

I think this is a great idea, but that non-admins should also have this ability, especially if there's a power imbalance that wouldn't otherwise be correctable outside of a history log. Maybe have a toggle so that certain roles can only export things made/posted *after* they joined, but reserving history logs to owners (and admins) can skew narratives if a dispute is ever brought up.

martosss that isn't an actual solution. I do like to get server notifications sometimes, but not all the time. For example, when I'm sleeping.
I should be able to not only mute server notifications, but also have a "whitelist" of contacts that I would like to allow for DMs. Android already has a lot of granularity in Notifications for discord while in DnD mode, but this doesn't fully solve the problem since desktop still exists, and things like "conversations" are broken right now so I can't disable them.0 -

Hi Hope You are doing well
Mute every server that you're in and make sure you have @everyone and @here toggled off for them as well. You'll still get pings/notifications for direct mentions in servers and there's no way to avoid that, though.
Thanks Regards TheWing.Pk

Hi
Turn off @everyone and @here on all of the servers you're currently on, and make sure @everyone and @here are turned off for them as well. Pings and notifications for direct mentions in servers will continue to be sent to you, and there is no way to avoid them at all.
Thanks Accotech

Just like an iPhone, there are two ways to turn off notifications on an Android phone or tablet.
Android devices have a Do Not Disturb mode that will mute all notifications, including phone calls.
1. Open the Settings app and tap "Sounds."
This menu might also be called "Sounds and vibration." Abbey White/Business Insider
2. In the menu that opens, tap "Do Not Disturb."
Tap the "Do Not Disturb" option. Abbey White/Business Insider
3. You'll be able to edit its settings, including which notifications, if any, can get through. You can allow calls from certain numbers. Abbey White/Business Insider
You can also disable notifications for each app on your phone.1. Open Settings and tap "Notifications," and you'll find a full list of all your apps.
2. Tap the toggle switch next to each app to turn off its notifications.
3. If you want to leave an app on but customize the type of notifications it sends, tap "Advanced" at the top-right and then tap an app's name to edit it.
This may help you,

To mute all notifications except direct messages (DMs) on Discord, you can follow these steps:
- Open Discord and log in to your account.
- Click on the gear icon located at the bottom left corner of the screen. This will open the User Settings menu.
- In the User Settings menu, navigate to the "Notifications" tab on the left sidebar.
- Under the "Notification Settings" section, you will see various options for different types of notifications.
- Find the "Server Mute" option and make sure it is toggled off or disabled. This will prevent you from receiving notifications from servers.
- Scroll down to the "Direct Message" section and make sure the "Sounds" and "Desktop Notifications" options are toggled on or enabled. This will ensure that you still receive notifications for direct messages.
- Additionally, you can adjust the other notification settings according to your preference, such as message pings or @mentions.
By following these steps, you will mute all notifications from servers while still receiving notifications for direct messages on Discord.
