As everyone else clearly said we need this badly, the fact this is by discord staff and it hasn't been planned yet tho.

I absolutely agree that this should be implemented. Recently a big server was raided, every role was mentioned, because I value being able to mention people in roles to inform them of something specific just to them, not the entire server. And it would be inefficient and stupid to just make announcement channels for each individual role, because a) it takes up space, and b) it would become a hassle if people in different roles need to be told the same thing
At the absolute minimum, people with the Administrator permission should be able to mention any role. And here's a problem; this post was made 5 months ago, and has over 3 thousand upvotes. Have we had updates since then? Yes. Have they added this? No. We've gotten mobile indicators and spoilers. Come on discord team, add this already please2 -

Without this option, the ability to mention particular rules is absolutely worthless in any server with over 20 people. Those of you suggesting to put rules into place obviously don't manage large communities (or even medium ones for that matter). Such a system is ripe for abuse, and we all know malicious users aren't deterred by something as useless as a Discord ban. Said users can easily create additional accounts, and wait the 10 minute requirement out to continue to grief.

I too would like a permission system like "This cole can mention these roles: [array of roles]".

We have 14k members on our server. If I'm about to make an announcement, I need to set permissions to allow ANYONE to ping >> Type really fast (copy+paste) >> Send my announcement >> turn off the role ping super fast. If someone notices I'm typing -- even with copy paste -- or notices the announcement fast (since they get pinged, after all), they can @ping up to 14k people if they do it before I turn off the perm!
This is extremely ghetto and this should absolutely not be the way to ping roles from a mod perspective.

I would even say in terms of rolling something like this out the easiest first step, which I believe would solve most people's problems with pinging roles would simply be having three sliders:
"Allow anyone with the Administrator permission to @mention this role"
"Allow anyone with the Mention Everyone permission to @mention this role"
"Allow anyone to @mention this role"This would allow you to limit rolepinging to either:
- admins, owners or bots with the Administrator Permission, eg. for automated "new Youtube upload" or "stream going live" notifications, or because you only trust Admins to not ping people unnecessarily.
- trusted moderators who you want to be able to ping everyone but don't trust with full "Administrator" permissions, eg. for giveaways, announcements, etc.
- all users can ping a role, eg. for users to ping staff members when they require one but the staff are offline.1 -
How is this not a thing yet? Admins should be able to mention any role or at least roles under their rank, even if it's set to "allow anyone mention this role - OFF".

This has over 3000 users agreeing/upvoting everyone and their mother wants this. If you guys add this it will be very very appreciated on discord worldwide because I just think of 1k ways this can be useful I've been trying to do this for a while but nothing works. Please just allow this. The whole community will love this as a feature just add it, Its alot of coding but surely be appreciated.

Not yet, though I would suggest those who voted to see one of Discord's recent tweets - they mentioned that they were planning on running a "hack week" for new features, and are listening to replies for features.

Absolutely need this in Discord. Recently had a ping spammer come in and ping almost everyone through rank roles 10 times before I could ban him. Can't believe this function isn't already implemented.

I have a bot to moderate excessive mentions and a rule not to ping X roles unless you have Y roles, it's usually pretty peaceful aside from the accidental ping by a noobie asking for role and pinging it. But that doesn't stop the trolls from coming into my server and pinging every available role. It's a large sever and every time a troll or group of trolls come in and raid my server we lose a large chunk of members since there is nothing we can do besides turn off the ability to mention each role for EVERYONE.
Having to turn them back on and off every time one of my team members needs to mention someone is extremely tedious, as well as time consuming since my team would need to ask me or another admin to turn it on and back off, and we're not always around. It's just not efficient and I don't want to give all my team members access to role management permissions.
It would be extremely helpful if each role could have the general permission to make it mentionable by everyone and the option to only make it mentionable by specific roles. On behalf of moderators and teams on Discord everywhere, please make this a thing.

You could have worded this better, but a feature allowing mods for example to tag roles, without allowing everyone would be a very useful feature. When setting up my server under the rules section, I had to enable each individual role to allow me to tag it, so I could list them off in rules, then go back in disable them. If nothing else allow server admins to tag any role.

This still isn't a thing? Can y'all update us on what's the holdup? I'd say this is one of top priorities. The bandaid solution of flipping it on and off constantly is annoying.
You folks are doing great work, btw. I hope you're working on expanding this into a chat or blogging platform, because I just want to use my custom emoji everywhere. Typing a colon has become like second nature.

HIGHLY agree, even if you dont go into depth with it by making certain roles able to ping specific other roles it would be nice to be able to turn on or off.
EX: @everyone (role) can not ping (ping-able) roles, Moderator (role) can ping (ping-able) roles.
the same way you can turn on and off manage message perms or ban perms.0 -
I don't understand, why is this not a thing yet? This feature is very important to us, man. Without this, admins and moderators have to swtich the "Allow anyone to @mention this role" option back and forth back and forth again to just mention specific group of people.

At what point shall we all just boycott discord for still having not done this, now they are just going for monetization via their new server tier system it seems. Already starting to hope for the next best thing to come out and jump ship.

"Keep it simple" implementation idea :
Roles can only be @mentioned by roles above them if the "restricted mentioning" server option is enabled.
This may come into conflict with role color inheritance, but whatever. I really, really just want this feature.
