Move Messages
It would be really useful for moderators to be able to move messages between text channels in a guild.
This could involve a new permission: 'MOVE_MESSAGES'.
Some concerns about this idea have been raised, but do not seem to be fatal. These are touched upon as follows.
Could this be abused?
It could only be abused to the same extent as existing powers such as kicks, bans, and message deletions. Guilds could have the ability to control who wields the power, preferably through a dedicated MOVE_MESSAGES permission. They could also monitor its use through the Audit Log. If the power were to be abused under these conditions, the issue would seem to lie with the powerholders in the guild in question, rather than the power itself.
Could members be confused?
If a message is moved without any indication, this could be confusing, as members may not realise that their message has been moved. This could be helped by having an automated system message which takes the place of the moved message to explain that the message has been moved.

Still after 3 years we haven't this simple function. Good good...

6 years since Discord hinted about adding this, and look where we are. We still don't have this extremely simple and vital function. I really don't understand why we don't have this feature yet.

Daamn Discord. 6 years? -_-
Smh.

I think it would be best if replies don't simply disapprove of Discord or repeat what has already been said. The best thing to do is to upvote this issue and let them do their thing. That way all the people that are subscribed to this post receive meaningful updates, not random messages. Discord is an awesome *and free* service!

I agree. However, I would certainly pay for the service and servers if there was some sensible way. My little organisation could pay £10 a month, but the bizarre "server boost" thing makes it awkward.
But yes, "Move messages" should be a thing!2 -
This feels kinda crazy that feature is not implemented yet. It's a basic feature which every forum has had since what feels like the beginning of time.
4 -
It boggles my mind that this feature is still not implemented. Discord has every feature under the sun, but this one very basic feature which I would have expected to be there from the get go, is missing. Weird.

Hey guy "LOOK NO MORE" somewhere here someone had posted their Move Bot,(I tried to find the post but for some reason can't) and I tested it out and it works, MoveBot https://discordbotlist.com/bots/movebot

Please we need this

How is this not a feature already? It's been on the to do list for years. This would help alleviate so many headaches. Come on, Discord!

this has been on the to do list for 6 years. it should have been added already but nope, i think discord forgot about this idea for years. come on discord, this would help many problems!

such a basic feature and discord can't even add it? am I supposed to like ban my friend who always uses the wrong channels or something?

Discord is really great! But I still can't believe that this "move function" is not implemented. What do you do when a user posts a message in the wrong channel? Of course you can ask the user to delete the message and post it again, but the ability to move the message and leave an "information that the message has been moved" in place (or auto-DM, or both) would be much, much better.
But the biggest problem: I know many who also use Discord to collect votes (polls), collect suggestions and people can vote with reactions on the messages. But later, when you want to move those messages, it's not possible. You lose at least the original author of the message when you repost and of course you lose all reactions to the post (votes).
It would be really cool if you could move messages.
If the Discord team wants to limit abuse of the feature, you can simply do 2 things.
1. move the message only if the author of the message agrees. This would delay it a bit, but at least it would be a solution to move your own messages.2. Most important: Automatically tell the user via DM that his message has been moved. If necessary you have to ask the moderator/admin who moves a message to give a reason for the move. So, it is transparent if something was moved. If necessary, you could also make an inconspicuous link to the moved message at the place where something was moved.
Of course, bots / Discord API also need the ability to move with same rules as above.6 -
The points TheFlow make are spot on why many of us don't just use the bot that someone keeps touting over and over again. Yes, the bot meets the most basic function of moving a post, but it does not handle the other aspects related to a move.
Several servers I've joined, as well as those I started myself need the full functionality described. The bot, sadly, is fine for its dead basic use but we need more than that.

I've had zero success getting the bot to work. Using a hack for such a standard feature is strange, too.

3 + years later, 1845+ upvotes and not a single word from the devs or anyone representing discord. As of this morning we have 5,027 members on one of the servers I am an admin of and to be able to move messages is a much needed feature. One work around I use is to take a screenshot of the message, and post it in the correct channel, then delete the original. This is not practical.
Yet completely useless features that make the UI look more and more dumbed down, are added almost bi-monthly.
This thread has been a complete waste time. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice . . .
I can unfollow the topic simple enough; but I am having trouble unsubscribing to this thread. The only workaround I have been able to do is create a filter sending the notification emails from this thread directly to trash.5 -
Today I cancelled my nitro subscription citing this very thread and the lack of essential feature support
maybe if more subscribers cancel / speak with their wallets, maybe they’ll finally prioritise this essential feature.
they keep adding pointless emojis … how about some actual serious coding for a change guys?

Any chance of a screenshot of how Move it messages differ to the original messages? Thanks.

I just want to emphasize that this feature is really, really needed!

OMG! Still not available? It’s hard to read all the messages about without a solution since - how - 6 years?
Need to try the MoveBot2 -
OMG! Still not available? It’s hard to read all the messages about without a solution since - how - 6 years?
Need to try the MoveBotPegasusTT77 (Tina): Moving messages is technically not possible in discord for now. There is no functionality to "move" a message, also not per Discord API. So, also no bot in the world could "move" messages. The guy here who is talking about "MoveBot" every 5 messages is just spamming. You can only "delete" and "repost" a message, but the "repost" will be made by your bot shown as message author. Also all reactions to the original message will be deleted. So, a move of discord messages for now is not possible. you can just "copy & paste" the message content.
But yes, would be great when move messages will be implemented. :-)1 -
I think what your guys mean by 'move messages' should be called 'a new way to organize information'. At least it is how I see things, and... threads don't solve the problem... In fact it makes things even worse (a new way to de-organize information) .
At the moment these are the possible solutions I have in mind:-move everything to other service(annotations and small topics)(this is what I have done)
-use zapier.com to send all messages somewhere place where it can be organized (I have not tested this yet, but may work)
I wish discord can auto-clusterize all text in sub-topics, so we will not need all the mess that move messages and threads can create.
There is a new trend in the interwebs called 'Data Digestion', here we go, far and beyond...

I contacted Discord again, a few months ago about this issue. They still can't do anything and said no one really looks at these forums. Then the guy recommends Slack out of the blue. He said he uses Discord to participate in other servers, but runs his own via Slack - said a lot of his friends do the same.
I switched over my personal organization and groups there, and even found myself using discord less and less overtime for anything. Between Clubhouse, Slack, and Zoom - I'm having a much easier time than trying to use a worse version of all 3 with Discord. Oh and yes, you can freaking move messages in Slack.
2 -
Well I didn't want to move from Discord, however thanks to @rowskey I will definitely be giving Slack ago due to not only the fact that they have this essential moderarion feature but also appear to not ignore a huge majority of their customer database on their own support pages.
1 -
To go to slack it doesn't make sense we move from there to come here and it much better I don't know how many times I have to report that there is a bot now that you can move messages and it does leave a message saying messages have been moved ... bot is called "Move Bot"
