Move Messages
It would be really useful for moderators to be able to move messages between text channels in a guild.
This could involve a new permission: 'MOVE_MESSAGES'.
Some concerns about this idea have been raised, but do not seem to be fatal. These are touched upon as follows.
Could this be abused?
It could only be abused to the same extent as existing powers such as kicks, bans, and message deletions. Guilds could have the ability to control who wields the power, preferably through a dedicated MOVE_MESSAGES permission. They could also monitor its use through the Audit Log. If the power were to be abused under these conditions, the issue would seem to lie with the powerholders in the guild in question, rather than the power itself.
Could members be confused?
If a message is moved without any indication, this could be confusing, as members may not realise that their message has been moved. This could be helped by having an automated system message which takes the place of the moved message to explain that the message has been moved.

It looks like Discord is dead. There is no support.

Wow, I can't believe this isn't a feature already. My server mainly plays Escape From Tarkov, but now that BattleField 2042 beta is released the #eft-chat channel is full of BF2042 chat rather than it being in the #bf2042-chat channel.
There should be a "MOVE_MESSAGE" permission which allows an administrator to move the message to the right channel. It should change the channel ID on the message and have a tag on the message that says "Moved from #channel by @adminuser on October 8, 2021, at 12:45pm". If the message is the top of a thread, move the entire thread. For bonus points send the user a private message that their message has moved to the other channel to educate them. Batch these update messages so only one is sent for multiple moves because, let's face it, there is probably a whole conversation going on that isn't in a thread.
For those who think this could be abused, if it is simply take the permission away from that user. If you let admins delete messages, this is far less destructive.

We have to submit support or feature requests AND reply to confirmation email. I just realize that only request submit is not enough. Then if there will be many of us t may move the thing in right way.

3 years after the original request and 574 messages repeating said request and this still is not implemented? That's ridiculous! This is a BASIC admin feature that should have been added years ago. Please revisit this request and update the app!

rannyrunt I have the opposite problem: we have a dedicated channel for news reports, but discussions break out there pretty commonly. It's a super easy mistake to make (even I've forgotten which channel I'm in and done it), so I don't want to just delete the messages, I want to move them to one of the more generic discussion channels!
Only other things I can really do is just delete them and lose parts of the discussion we want to encourage.

Guys, that's a no-brainer feature. However, 3-4 years have passed and discord has done nothing. We should invite people to upvote it and reach grand amount of upvoters. There is no other way. They don't care for usability, but for bare statistics and tend to favoritism (meaning that they proceed favorite features based on numbers).

Please! I need it!

Definitely need this feature, this is now the highest commented request after threads feature and the threads feature is now completed.
Much -o- Need

Just a friendly reminder that this still doesn't exist. 😑

It's ridiculous that after several years and hundreds of requests that this feature has not been implemented.
To get around this I have to copy and paste the message, this loses the links to the original author. Not an ideal solution.
It seems Discord is deaf to the needs of the users. Way to go Discord, follow in the steps of Facebook et al 🤬2 -
This type of basic but unexplainably put off forever thing is why Discord is currently losing members to other platforms like Slack & Guilded.

They do this in a server I'm in actually but I don't know how

There is a way for a bot to approximate this feature. To do so, the bot deletes the message (no way to leave a link to the new message) and posts the message in the correct channel as being posted BY the bot (hopefully, ideally with correct attribution within). What we're looking for is a way to do something like this without using a bot, ideally leaving a "breadcrumb trail" so that where the "deleted" message was is a link to the new correct location and the message in the new location is posted as from the original user, ideally with a reference to where it was originally posted and a note that it was moved.

Indeed, the bot solution is messy. This should be integrated.

As the maintainer of MoveBot, I also wish this was an integrated feature. My bot creates a webhook that “mimics” the original poster, but there is now way to leave a trace at the original timestamp other than “printing” the time. Ive been following this thread and so many people need this feature in discord.. I made an unperfect solution for my needs and I’m glad it helps others, but Discord really needs to get involved with this issue. Can I ask everyone who sees this to tag Discord on twitter with #movemessages?

Just for the record, I have absolutely no complaints with those who have created workarounds for these issues. I just want the integrated solution, which (barring complete implementation failure) should be much more elegant.

As one of the Moderators for a News Streamer's Discord I can say for a fact that this feature is much needed and long over due. With the addition of the Threads; being able to move a post to the appropriate thread is essential. Our members are still getting used to using threads and being able to move a post is essential right now.

Great idea by N3X4S! Let's do this!
I also thought about asking them everytime to move our messages via support ticket ;-)

This would be really great, it has tons of utility and basically no downsides if implemented like discussed. Similar message to when a message is deleted.

Why is this still not a feature?
5 -
I am a mod as well in a Discord Server and this needs to be done!!! I like most other mods like channel subjects to stay organized
5 -
We definitely need this feature.
4 -
Still need this.

This is still needed!

In ye olden days of the internet on free forums I modded, I was able to move and mass-move messages without losing links to original posters, timestamps, or anything. This was FIFTEEN F***ING YEARS AGO. Discord, wth?

This is one of the few things about Discord that actually make me think I should switch to a different service, that's how annoying and frustrating it is for me. I have different channels for different topics in my server, and of course new members often forget about that, and the fact that there's no way to fix it only makes it all the more embarrassing for them when I point it out, because now there's a bunch of out of topic messages cluttering the main channel and there's nothing that can be done about it.

This would be a great feature to move content and conversations to more relevant text channels, AND pave the way for text channel merging to consolidate unnecessary channels without losing any content! (I've made a separate post for this feature here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/4412683925399-Merge-Text-Channels)

I hate to say "+1", but, y'know, yeah. +1. Over 2000 upvotes and still counting.

How is it December 2021 and this isn't a basic feature yet? This was a STAPLE command for message boards and forums since the 90's for hecks sake! GET YOURSELVES SORTED, DISCORD!

Still an issue? .. wow /facepalm
