Move Messages
It would be really useful for moderators to be able to move messages between text channels in a guild.
This could involve a new permission: 'MOVE_MESSAGES'.
Some concerns about this idea have been raised, but do not seem to be fatal. These are touched upon as follows.
Could this be abused?
It could only be abused to the same extent as existing powers such as kicks, bans, and message deletions. Guilds could have the ability to control who wields the power, preferably through a dedicated MOVE_MESSAGES permission. They could also monitor its use through the Audit Log. If the power were to be abused under these conditions, the issue would seem to lie with the powerholders in the guild in question, rather than the power itself.
Could members be confused?
If a message is moved without any indication, this could be confusing, as members may not realise that their message has been moved. This could be helped by having an automated system message which takes the place of the moved message to explain that the message has been moved.

Noob to Discord here.I was just searching for the way to do this, and surprised to see it has been on the "waiting list" for three years. Can anyone from Discord comment on why this has been left behind for so long? It seems like a basic permission that admins would use regularly.

Well yeah it would be basic permission, but we can kinda have workarounds using bots nowadays.
Thanks to bots they can always postpone our requests although it makes it hard for newbies who arent into bots.0 -
This would be tremendously helpful!!! A simple fix is replacing the original message with a system message including a link to the new destination. This way, it avoids any confusion, easy to find the message and it makes the action transparent. This happens constantly and the only options are, asking the user to delete the message and report is on their own or the mod just delete it... It's a painful process and makes it difficult on everyone.

If we could do this between servers that'd be great too. I have a server I desperately want to leave but don't want to leave my RP's behind. Those mean a lot to me and there is a lot of relationship building and adventures. So being able to move messages and whole threads between servers and channels -- even with out being an admin (That could keep abused members in places they don't want to be like me, if its just admins. Its the admins I want to get away from!) would be great.

Moving threads without admin permissions is tricky... That would at least need that user has "move post" permission on the destination server and channel. Otherwise it would open possibility of moving off-topic threads en masse to any Discord server and channel regardless of the permission requirements imposed by the destination server admins.

Personally I would only allow moving threads started by the user oneself, not any thread where the user has replied at least once.

This is a necessary thing. I don't know why it doesn't exist? I need it for midjourney prompts. I have thousands of them. There's no way to copy and paste the whole message, just the text, so not even that works.

Hey Discord. How about for your birthday celebration you give us this feature instead of things that no one cares about. Ability to move messages is the one feature that EVERY moderator and admin wants, which is why it is still getting comments and requests FOUR YEARS after being raised.
Seriously, Discord is the only forum-like product I can think of that does not allow moderators and admins to move incorrectly posted messages to the correct channel.2 -
Do they ever comment on features? Y'all ever seen that in other ones?
1 -
It would be a wonderful feature !

Ugh, we need this feature so bad. It's an excellent power for moderators to have or anyone looking to keep channels clean. Additionally, I have old channels rotting away as an archive because I don't want to lose all the rich history. If this feature request gets approved, you may as well give us the ability to move multiple posts at once and also to merge channels.

We need this feature because it is a basis for a group discussion.

Please, please, please, institute this feature, it is so long overdue. keeping threads intact is a moderator nightmare without this feature

Any progress on this Discord? 5 years later and 2,217 people want this.

This feature really have to be bumped on the feature list. And being able to move the messages to a thread not only channels. Threads is under utilized. We need to be able to move messages to threads and channels to moderate the clutter that discord can become

People are delusional thinking there is still Discord team members reading this community… Nothing has happened in quite many months. A lot of newer projects don't even bother setting up or maintaining Discord servers anymore as there is a lot better alternatives.

Very strange why nobody from discord orga team reacts to this suggestion - even if it wasn't technically possible there should be a statement with the number of "likes" ... or do we wait another 3 years? *sigh*

2k+ upvotes seems like a lot for a feature. Are we going to get this soon?

hopefully.

We need this to moderate kindly. Isn't that enough votes to get it done?
0 -
No amount of votes will make them care, just look at the most upvoted suggestions. They haven't fixed stuff with way more. It doesn't took like they've implemented any of these suggestions inthe past 5 years. They've basically abandoned this forum.

Need this as well. I wonder why is it being ignored, there must be some technical difficulty preventing them from considering this rather basic feature.

it must be possible since there was or still is? a bot that can do it

Bot probably deletes the messages and posts copies in different place
0 -
that's exactly what it does. but that would be better than nothing.
other systems even the old-school woltlab burning board had a move post funktion…

I could easily make a Make.com bot that would do this and then add the author @ references and link showing where it was moved from.

Thanks for highlighting this topic. Many community members are deeply interested in it. If you're seeking updates or additional details, consider exploring the "SASSA Status Check" resource. Let's anticipate further progress in this domain!

I'm not holding my breath that the devs will invest time in ANY functionality which doesn't produce income. It's actually been over 5 years since the request was first made… the initial post was EDITED 3 or so years ago. Look at the dates on the first few replies after the OP.

Why do we still not have this???
I need to move a few posts between two channel sections, … find out there is still no way to do it??0 -
Here we are many years later, and still no solution?
