Color Text
When making larger posts, or breaking down someone else's (during a debate or smth) it's nice to be able to add emphasis, or draw attention to certain areas.
While using bold or code (not block) markdown works, I think being able to use color would be helpful. The way I'd like to see it implemented would be by adding a markdown option.
/[Hex color code/@RoleName/spoiler]/Words here//
(Where rolename/spoiler is optional).
- The default behavior would be to color it to whatever a user's role is.
- If a role name is put in, it colors the text to that role's color value, and pings that role.
- If spoiler is put in, it sets the text background color to the color of the text.
The hex code's default behavior is to only change the foreground text color.
If the hex color is formatted as
#FFFFFF#FFFFFF
The first code is used for the foreground, the second as the background.
If the hex color is formatted
#$#FFFFFF
The foreground text is left unchanged, but the background is set.

It would also be cool if we could change our font colour to whatever colour we want.

This would be cool, but I'd hope they'd do something to make it accessible for both light and dark theme, whether by automatically inverting the colour if too close to the theme colour, or by restricting use only to midtones.

There should be a settings option where we can chose what color we want to use to be able to text in both in the chat and in all the discord servers that we've joined for all the channels. I would like the text to be colorful than just the black text. I want like a gradient rainbow text instead of just using one hex color and have the option to have us chose how we want the text color to look like (for example in vertical or horizontal). I don't want this to be just for the nitro subscribers, I want this to be available for everyone who isn't a nitro subscriber as well too for all devices, PC Windows/Mac/IOS/Android!! I literally can't stand the boring black text.

Something like the way mIRC used to do where you could type Ctrl+k and it would open a color picker.

This sounds like a nice idea superficially, but I'm concerned that this would impede users who have colourblindness, epilepsy, or other hindrances. If this were to be implemented, a user-side setting that disables seeing this would be helpful. 3 -
I think this is a great idea for Discord to add this. However, @bastet_of_orion is kinda right. Colorblindness is something to take in concern. Maybe have a colorblind mode?

I heard from DTesters Discord that some of these features are on the work! 3 -
Well, I have though more about that. And yes. I agree, I feel like if this was added discord needs to add a colorblind mode. Also the ability to turn it off and on.

This would be extremely useful for GMing and tabletop things. As being able to differentiate between multiple characters in a single post can be difficult. Being able to colorcode characters would make things far more readable.

yes i would like to see it too

Codes don't colour on mobile, which is a separate issue but means it's not a fix.

Also it could be done through right clicking on the text while in the chatbox and selecting a color or writing in a HEX.

It would also be nice if they could expand the colorblind mode to affect role colors and maybe (not sure how this would work) to images posted in chats (maybe via overlays? would probably be wonky at best though).

As nice as this idea sounds on the surface, there's a couple of problems that crop up when you poke it - for one, accessibility for colourblindness, epileptics, and migraineurs (as depending on the person certain colours can cause problems for people). For two, the usage of different themes could conflict with text colour choices - white text on dark theme works, but not white text on white theme. 0 -
Also 3-character hex codes would be cool like: #080 for dark yellow

Personally I think having the markdown like githubs README.md would be nice allowing for you to be able to add lots of things including color

I think that it would be a better idea, if everyone could do that! *(Nitro + Basic)* 0 -
So you're saying visual addons are the most useless thing in the world?

(MERGED FROM MY POST)
I would like to propose the idea of having a configurable option for colors in chat, like what spigot and sponge have with its chat plugins. Using "&" as the prefix to your chat so like &4test would show up as red "test". This would make welcome messages and chat formatting more creative and special! Not to mention headers could contain color!0 -
I agree with this idea

How about colors for special roles?
Or some kind of css code you can use to color some sentences.-1 -
From an accessibility POV, this really isn't a good idea. Colorblind people would have no use of this feature what so ever + it can make a chat look very messy super easily. -1 -
I like how Discord only has white text. I think that it should stay that way because it keeps it simple -1 -
I agree with ℍ𝕖𝕝𝕝𝕠 𝕋𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖. I think that Discord should just stick to the basic color schemes that they have currently.
-1 -
Cool idea but people would abuse it. Maybe just a single soild color option (changeable) for Nitro Users. Like /textred or something similar
-2 -
I mentioned this yesterday and my post didnt get approved.

I see this being pretty hard on the eyes, both for users with vision impairments and in general. I guess I don't know what benefit having all the text in color would be. -2 -
No, I'm not saying that at all. Role colors have function, as they differentiate users with different permissions/roles/whatever. But changing all text to clashy colors could be abused pretty easily I think. -2 -
That's a bit too far
-3 -
would be such irritating to read -4
