It looks a lot like Discord doesn't want this to happen. But why?

Keep blitzing them with comments... One day we will get this... One day.

Would love to see threads as an option! It would really help keep multi-topic discussions orderly!

I haven’t checked, but is this listed on the Discord Support Trello or their support server chat?

Still need this, our team is currently deciding between slack and discord, and slack is starting to gain the upper hand

How is this not a thing yet? This is the one feature preventing my team from ditching Slack.

@straypet, people use different apps for different purposes.  You can't just tell others to use Slack or other apps if they like a certain feature they offer.  I use Slack, Discord, Hangouts, LINE, etc. all for different needs.  That should not have anything to do with requesting a feature such as the chat thread for Discord.

It's true threads in slack aren't organized.  But the conversations are kept inside the threads and you can easily jump from one to another and not lose context.  It's not about organized threads but organized conversations kept inside threads instead of having dozens of conversations going on in the same chat group/channel.

Please, if you really don't think Discord should have the thread feature, just list it under the feature list and say it won't ever be supported.  Then everyone will stop asking you for this feature.

    Thanks.

+1 for threads, for the same reasons everyone else had :)

Coming from slack I’m really surprised this feature doesn’t exist. I like everything else re: Discord - but threads seems so obvious.

Please ADD THREADS (AND POSSIBLY QUOTING) ASAP. Thanks x

Right now, this is the only feature that keeps our community (Barcelona Engineering) using Slack instead of Discord.

For those who are saying 'Use Slack or any chat site if you want threads and leave Discord alone!'

Let me tell you. In Slack and other chat sites there's a limited storage when posting comments, images, anything and to get free space (not to mention see previous comments) you need to PAY. You might say 'then pay the money, what's the problem?' is me asking you 'then would you keep paying monthly or why not you use Slack or any chat sites?'.

The other problem is if you're a big group/community that doesn't help either while maybe small groups/community might work in Slack or any chats, no hitting the limit. Because those other sites have a LIMITED capacity. LIMITED storage.

In Discord they don't ask you to pay (except Nitro and some online games), unlimited storage and images, great for chats, gamers, community group including big ones! BUT when you comment, yeah, you can just scroll and read it but do you want to keep scrolling to find the comment or if you make many different convo, questions, can you find in all that chatter no matter how much different channels you make?

Threading is helpful because 1. it's like a bubble where in group A can chat about subject A without getting interrupted by new comments and that would be same with group B C D, etc and 2. when a community has a channel for questions and answers it can be hard. Let's say A posted a question but B also posted a different question and so many others too then you have to tag the person and answer them but you also need to scroll up to know what question they asked and let's say the other half members commented random stuff. Very messy and confusing.

This could benefit any group, gamers, and while we have spoiler tag and quote block(?) we need threads because Discord is the only unlimited storage/capacity and no hectic and confusing comments even making different channels.

I didn't realize they deleted the old thread on threaded messaging. I think it should be an alternate channel type. Have # for normal channels, the speaker icon for voice channels, then have a tree or a back (reply) arrow or a speech bubble in a folder for the icon.

What if you wanted to convert and existing channel? Would need to be an all or nothing.

Please please please add this feature!! Otherwise context gets lost into a sea of overlapping conversations! Pretty please !

This is the only thing that makes me go back to Slack for some communities. I am on the brink to move them to discord, but this is the only thing that is keeping me from doing it.

just came here to voice my opinion. PLEASE DISCORD! We already love you, we want to love you even more!

Give us some threads. Conversations fade like winter leaves, when it could be so much better.

You guys can do it <3

Discord need thread to make chat message neat and accurate.

I agree. Especially when it comes to message management, there could be multiple conversations happening in a room and it is necessary to have in a room full of people but converstations can be lost and @mentioning people does help but it just looks really messy.

PLEASE add this, Discord. Discord is a rapidly growing platform, and with that comes larger servers and faster conversation. Threads would help facilitate better quality discussions in these situations.

Mr. Wolfe, the point here is that threads would make Discord more usable for more people. From previous comments of yours, it appears that your opinion is that Discord should be for role playing only, which isn't what it's used for by the vast majority of people. In RP servers, it's not as though you would have to use threads. No one would force you to use them, it would just make it easier for the folks who wanted them. Go back to IRC if you're that opposed to more modern chat formats. Sheesh.

I would like to see threads like featured on Slack. Especially with games going away now, having threads as a dedicated Nitro subscriber would be great. I really like supporting Discord but I belong to some communities who refuse to switch from Slack because they value the threading feature that is unavailable on Discord. Please Discord team, add threading capability to messages (perhaps as a toggled option for channels) so that we can better manage conversations on Discord.

I hope they atleast reply and speak their mind - however different it is from ours.

Ha! That sorry was a part of their response to me. One thing I noticed going through the features that have been added are that they tend to sort requests by the requests with the most reviews at the top and then work their way down the list. As it stands right now, there are 10+ requests (in the chat category alone) that have more votes than this request. So we need to pump this request up a bit. Some of the requests ranked higher than this one I'm sure are less desirable, so I think just not enough people know this particular request exists.

Its funny that I found this because I have fallen in love with Discord but the lack of threading is the only feature keeping me from using Discord for work instead of Slack.

The race is on for Discord to implement threaded conversations before Slack implements voice channels.

As a Discord nitro user, I have to say, thank you for the screen sharing feature! Haha, just kidding! I don't care about that feature. I want threads! When is that going to happen?

My group is considering a move to www.guilded.gg just for the thread functionality (though that product does have a bunch of nice features).
