Dude sry not implemented yet ?

Please do it ? We (I) need this a lot.

Don't forget to create some rule for thread.
Like right to reply but not to create a new thread (this wild be super effective)

Just a "quote" feature like whatsapp, reddit and any forum software would be great.

    open source communities _need_ threads.

with servers with 2k people, the help channel can easily get hard to follow. :-\

I second what NullVoxPopuli said 🎉

And we already know that Discord cares about open source communities because of this awesome page: https://discordapp.com/open-source

Yes!! We use Slack at work and it's easier to follow a topic by adding a thread to the parent post!

When there is a chat threading, i would even recommend it as an enterprise company communication tool (replacing slack, and skype). I think thats the only missing "killerfeature".

Threads would greatly improve the usability for large communities with many parallel topics / longer conversations. Please make it available. Thanks!

i really need this feature for my bot. i dont want to crowd chat with information I would rather reply to the person activating the command

By the way, I was also thinking that we should also be able to answer to images and videos, like when trying to discus about the content in the video. A time stamp sending to that video in that exact time would also be cool, specially in short time format, like this 00:00, 7:30 and so on.

We need the  thread and at least a #$@^#$@ quote feature.

Kramrm do you have a screenshot or text sample of how it differes from other threading styles?

It would help for people who may not use the ones you know.

@kuroe, Here are some samples I found online.  (Note - these are in the default light theme :)

Main message list is in the middle, with all message chronologically and an arrow indicator on how many messages are in the thread.  The list on the right are just the messages in that thread filtered out.  To reply in thread, you would click reply to access the conversation and then reply there.

@kramrm To me it looks similar to slack but I like the idea too. :D

The main difference to me is that on Slack, the sender has the option to post only in thread or in the main channel.  If only posted to the thread, I have not seen good notifications when messages are added to threads.  I would rather that "post to #channel" box be force selected on for everyone.

I have an additional request: To even do MORE than Slack and be really innovative, allow NESTED threading. As in: allow theading of comments in a thread!

    Absolutely!
I've just started using Discord to subscribe to some information and was hunting the page to see where I could Quote/Reply to a specific comment only to find out it's not possible.
Ridiculous this was not built in from day one.

I see previous posts here raising this as a negative, stating that it would make posts harder to find, simple, make it optional...

Also consider how threads are handled in Disqus as an example, with multiple sorting options and compact connection lines.

Email clients are also a good reference with various simple threading options...

I think this would be an amazing addition to community discord servers where conversations happen amongst multiple people at once. PLEASE consider adding this as a feature. I think it'd add a ton of value!

Does discord team ever reads this?

Implementing a Reddit-style nested comment system might be kinda weird for the developers, unless they just created a new channel type designed for exactly that.

What about a system where you could basically just direct a post at someone without actually pinging them? ... well, I guess that would basically just be typing their name before your post.

Heck, maybe just a thing where you can click/tap and hold down on a post so it'll automatically put the person's name in your reply bar? Like the thing I keep accidentally doing on mobile, but without the ping?

I'm not familiar with the apps you're referring to, so I dunno what you're actually asking for, and that might be part of it? I just want to make sure I understand the suggestion. (^_^)

    WE NEED THREADS

I agree that Threading would give me more leverage to promote Discord for professional use.  Also, reading the comments about game-time, it seems that threading would enable faster coordination on short-term matters - without creating whole additional channels

@Glenn McGrew Please read my post in page 4.

Some of us are calm and yeah, we grumble and that but do you think we're like hating on Discord or demanding to them? We're giving our FEEDBACK and SUGGESTIONS to them. You might think threading and this post's vote rank isn't gonna let the Dev see or why try it but that doesn't mean we're giving up.

Some, as you think who's petty and threatening to leave, do you think ALL are like that? :/ I do understand though that those kind isn't the right way but not ALL of us are like that. Re-read the previous post please.

And as I stated in page 4: 'Let me tell you. In Slack and other chat sites there's a limited storage when posting comments, images, anything and to get free space (not to mention see previous comments) you need to PAY. You might say 'then pay the money, what's the problem?' is me asking you 'then would you keep paying monthly or why not you use Slack or any chat sites?'.'

And this isn't me being angry at you but like a tone of debate.

Edit: About Samepage, how much capacity of users can they hold? That's another issue that needs consider.

This is a neat idea. Too often do I find myself unwilling to interject into conversations due to the fact that there are either a few going on, or the topic is long since started.

Still not done? Still on Slack.

  • Angel Angelic_Vamp

@Maverick Wolfe Not sure why you're obsessed here if you hate us with the idea :/

'This type of feature would COMPLETELY DESTROY Discord the way it was meant to be used and make the experience AWEFUL! Again, it would be VERY UGLY and VERY BULKY and destroy the EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY TO ROLEPLAY PROPERLY!'

So all you care is RP and not think of other communities? Isn't that rude? I know majority might be RP users but gamers are also here and yet, you're excluding them?

''Think about it before you Upvote this completely stupid idea as it's not NEEDED OR WANTED BY THE RP COMMUNITY. Discord NEEDS to be it's own thing not something it was never designed to be! If you do NOT know how to create seperate catagories in your channel then you don't belong operating one!'

Uh ok? We do make separate categories and channels but you do realize that still makes peoples' comments swamped with other peoples' comments? Hence, that's why they either missed your comment or too much discussion. I still not sure why you speak for the RP community when the RP people can speak for themselves?

'If you want a forum type experience LEAVE DISCORD AND START A FORUM! I didn't realize there were people that don't have the brains to understand that seperate channels within the discord are the way it's meant to operate, it operate's precisely like a forum should... If you want seperate topics you seperate them and tell your users to use those channels simple as that'

I mean, for us, we use to use Slack but there's a limit and money problem and other similar sites were same so Discord is the only right place. There's Discourse but that's not a storage place but rather good for only Forum types. Assuming we don't have brains is...well....do you even know us and what we do in our servers? Are you sure we don't have brains? I mean we did make categories and channels that you wouldn't know and so are others which I don't understand you :/

So in short, we know how to make separate categories, you don't really speak for RP community and you're really not thinking other communities. (Also I'm a RP and I for one voted this thread)

here's the thing - if threading is added, nobody is forced to use it. you could make it not the convention in your server if you please. but it would be really useful (I can really see a benefit in RP as well, like, keep side/ooc side conversations side barred.)

also, I'm 35 and was on BBS during my childhood, let's stop with the ageist BS
