Read/Seen Messages
I really think Discord should have a 'seen/read message' feature, mainly for DMs. I can never tell if someone has read my message or not. It'd be really useful to know if someone's ignoring me. Overall, I feel that it would be good to know if someone read a message I sent without having to reply or reacting to it. I'm unable to tell if a friend of mine read my message without having to ask if they did. It might be just me, but it kind of irritates me a bit when I do have to confirm. Also, for those saying that you can just react to a message, not everyone reacts to a message showing that they read what you sent, hardly anyone that I message does.
I don't think this would work for servers, but it would definitely work for direct messages. If people have mixed feelings about this, maybe this could be a feature that can be toggled off/on. A lot of other messaging apps have this feature, but I also think Discord should also have this. Overall, I think this would be useful for me and other people.
(Edit): This has so many comments, thanks, guys! But we really need more upvotes in order for Discord to see this. I'd really love for this feature to be released, please upvote guys. Really appreciate the comments from both sides. Hopefully, they'll notice eventually.

I agree, it could be just like Instagram. I don't see why this has so many dislikes though.

Yeah, agreed

I agree as long as it's something you could toggle on and off both for how YOU see it and for how others see you... especially if you could choose to change the settings per chat room... I'm not sure why so many people are down-voting this though :/

Maybe not for servers but for private messages

please don't, this will only lead to unneseccary conflicts.

No.
We do not need this.-1 -
I think this feature should (at least) exist within DMs and group chats. If this is also possible for servers too, then be my guest.
-2 -
I can see one or two privacy issues but it's a good idea as a whole -3 -
I think it's a really good idea, so I upvoted! And I agree about the dms' thing because servers can have over 10k people lol ^0^

This is definitely needed for DMs -4 -
Maybe this could be something you could turn on for other people to see that you've read their message, but definitely not on by default. That would be horrific.

Why tho? :S

if they aint replied, just wait a bit longer, go do something, make a drink, play a game... chill :P
3 -
wait... would it just break the "invisible" status??
6 -
Oh yeah, never thought of that. Well, Discord, when we have our invisible status on, make it so that the other end cant see if we seen the msg

NO.

i support this! it would only be useful in dms though and not servers.
-4 -
If this feature is optional, then I support it
1 -
i support this, servers would be completly useless, but would be awesome for dm's or groups and you know who in that group that have read ur message!

It's a no for me.
If people would actually be relaxed about it and understand that some people reply on their own time (as I do only with specific friends on messaging platforms that have this) I would consider it. But more often than not this is not the case and it leads to unfortunate situations.Anyone who wants this feature because of the practicality aspect they can just react or actually reply anything. If they want this feature for other reasons then they are part of what causes the unfortunate situations.

People who argue against the creation of a read/seen function seem to have ignored the very frequently repeated idea that this function should be optional (ie. opt in to use the feature). So why be against it, if the feature is only turned on if both parties want to use it?
Maybe some people don't even want another person to ask them to approve the feature being turned on between them? So you could create a setting that blocks people even sending a request to turn the feature on.0 -
If your message is a dark grey (in Dark Mode) then that means the message is currently in the process of being sent. When it gets to its usual not-white, that's when the server has received the message and is publicly displaying it.
This feature is more obvious on phones or other devices that can have spotty connections.2 -
I think it would create even more conflicts. 2 -
I second Godfather

This has privacy implications 0 -
Hmm, not sure this would be the best option considering everyone seems to like it how it is already. Maybe this could be implemented but have an option in settings to turn it off? -1 -
I personally think that this feature would not be useful enough 0 -
I don't think people would want that.
There are enough people who disabled it in WhatsApp because their contacts wanted them to answer in seconds and they got pissed of about that.

Man yes people would want this cause I'm sick of texting people then wondering if they seen it most times I know for a fact they seen the shit just choose to ignore it so I just remove myself from ppl like that but still it would be a good feature just have it where people can turn it on and off so people who don't like it and do like it can have their say over it simple
