2 years and no solution? Why?????

Why do they store our messages forever? this is ridiculous, not even by deleting the account you can get rid of the messages.

I doubt Discord really cares about the users' needs, it's been years of us begging for this feature, which already exists in every other IM application and we still got nothing. Just make it so we can delete the whole chat history on our end like Facebook/Instagram/Whatsapp/Twitter/Telegram/Skype does! It's been so many years, something could already have been done

At least we should have SOME control over our information and choose what we want to see or get rid of. Just closing the DM isn't enough

To everyone still looking for a solution. There are tampermonkey scripts, they are absolutely safe (open source). It takes a bit of time but they will delete all of your messages, channel by channel. Just make sure to not close dms so that you have access to the channels in question. Don't trust Discord with your data.

    1) This feature should be mandatory to any messanger and it's ridiculous that it's not available in discord.

    2) To everyone who keep mentioning tampermonkey and other scripts which delete your messages: Sometimes it's not your own messages that you want to delete, but the ones you got from others. And yes, you can block people and their messages will become hidden, but there are situations when you don't want to block someone entirely.

    3) For some reason some people believe that this feature isn't added yet because discord profits by selling your personal info and deleting messages interferes with that. To those people: Even if discord does this, deleting your dms with someone has nothing to do with that. If they really need your dm history they can just keep it to themselves without showing it to users. I mean you can delete your own messages and deleting your dm history is not that different.

Dude you got no business deleting the messages of other people. Take your stupidity somewhere else. Use tampermonkey to delete your own stuff and be smarter in the future. Discord is an evil company.

    K_Alex,
    1) Rude
    2) Imagine a situation: Your friend dms you with some very disturbing picture, because they're stupid or a bit weird for example. You don't want to block them because they're your friend, but each time you go in your dms this picture is there. Shouldn't you be able to delete it? On your side at least. And in this situation, your beloved tempermonkey would be useless.

Необходимо ввести данный функционал. Это есть почти везде , нет почти только в дискорде. Очень нужная функция

Sadly, it is now February of 2021 and this is still a huge issue...Did you know that Twitter almost ended up in a legal battle because they used to not allow people to delete posts or messages in their DMs? I am not saying it will happen to Discord. But It is a possibility. Users should be able to Delete full DMs even if just on the deleter's side of the conversation. It can help with mental stability, cause say for example a couple who communitcate via Discord ends up having a terrible fight and breaking up. Anytime they want to check in on their EX lover they have to see the last messages sent to them before the breakup which can lead to depression or anxiety. As a person diaognosed with both of these and medicated for them aswell, I feel that an "Erase DM History" or "Clear All Messages" button should be an option in DMs or on Servers. "Clear All Messages" in a channel on a server would work better than using a bot...This is all my opinion and reasoning for wanting a DM History Clearer. Thank you for your time and consideration. Have a nice year.

    P.S. K_Alex Dude

I use the tampermonkey to delete mine but it was  very difficult for a Graphic Design student to figure out...It took me 3 days just  to get it to work. Also, please be sure to tell me how you feel  about my reasoning. Thanks Guys! ^^

Discord's privacy policy used to say nothing about the purpose of sharing data with their partners, so it will probably take them a while to implement, if they ever do. Whether they will is anyone's guess.

It's ludicrous that they do allow you to delete individual messages written by you, but not multiple messages from both you and the other person.

    I NEED THIS TOO

I'd like this to be a feature too, the fact it's over 2 years old is ridiculous; going through dms and hand deleting messages is so tiring, please make this a feature already.

This is apparently never going to happen.

these comments have been going for 2+ years and nothing has changed. ☹️

I've contacted Discord few times about this during the past couple of years and they have always told me to vote these suggestions. However, this suggestion has bunch of upvotes throughout two years. It's obvious that there is an issue and this feature is needed so please, Discord, take action and start working on this privacy issue the way community needs.

    Yes I agree

It's a reason people get triggered emotions from the DMs and want to delete all of the chat history but too much work on each message.

Okay this is the last time I'll mention this because no one seems to read comments or do their own problem solving.

Use the Tampermonkey browser plug-in. It allows you to mass delete all your messages by scanning a specified channel and your specified #. You are all welcome.

Dhampir, I'm sure that there are people who have taken your advice, but this thread is about asking for a feature like that on Discord. It's not about having a plug-in and extra work for yourself, it's about having a privacy feature.

Dhampir What most people are asking for is a way to delete both sides of a conversation for themselves.  The same as you can do in all other popular messaging apps such as skype or messenger.  Your solution only removes one side of any conversation as is not what is required.

This is a really big problem. I just want to remove their messages. I dont really care if I need to delete it one by one. But, the delete option isn't even there.

Just saw this...you are a weird one. I have every right and it is my "business" to delete messages someone has sent TO ME IN A DM if I see fit. Even if it doesn't delete it on their end, it should be gone from mine if I need it to. I have friends that like to send crude stuff sometimes. I don't want to get rid of a friend... just their unnecessarily crude messages. Grow up, bud.

The browser plug-in is only helpful if you're using discord primarily through a web browser. Most people use it through a desktop or mobile app program, so browser plug-in's are not helpful for them. I think people who use discord in a browser tab are a really small portion of users. If this were a mod we can install on discord itself, that'd be different since there are so many out there.

Noone needs to provide a reason why they want to delete old messages. With privacy a popular topic everywhere on the internet, do you think it strange people would want it here as well?

Why do I keep getting notifications for this dumb thread even after I unfollowed it? I already have my solution to the problem.

It is ridiculous how you can not clear dm history even being limited to be on your end. I'll be deleting my account over this. I am having an extremely hard time understanding discord's reasoning behind leaving such a serious privacy issue...

I'd like to delete messages too!!! I think I would have reconsidered even making an account if I'd known I can't get rid of shit! Maybe it's just an unpleasant interaction, maybe it's just one comment you didn't like. I want to be in control of my messages! I don't need this shit lingering forever!

I really wish users had the option to bulk delete their own messages from any DM's, group chats and servers. Even if you already left the server you should have the option to delete any messages you had sent there. When you request your data Discord will return to you ALL messages you've sent (even from servers you have left) so this should be possible.

Frustrating how people have been requesting this for years and nothing has been done about it. The common arguments against this are also stupid in my opinion.

"It ruins user experience". Yeah sorry but I think someone's right to delete messages goes above being able to re-read chat history. You can already delete individual messages, theoretically this means someone could delete an entire conversation if they are willing to spend the time to do so. That too would ruin user experience as well wouldn't it? I get that this isn't the best argument since, depending on the amount of messages, it'd take an insane amount of time to delete individually. But it's still possible.

"But what about cases of abuse/bullying?". That's what screenshots/screen recordings can be used for. The option to retrieve all your data can already take up to 30 days to complete. So it would make sense that bulk deleting your messages would also take a similar amount of time. That should be plenty of time to get any evidence right?

"But Discord can't handle that amount of data". Again retrieving ALL your messages is already an option. It just comes with the warning that the action can only be done once a month and that it can take up to 30 days to receive said data. Just make a similar option but for deletion. I highly doubt that people would be purging that often or that many messages anyway. And in the case it does end up being a lot why not just slow down the process? I really wouldn't mind if it took 1-2 months for deletion to complete so long as I am still given the option to do so.

I would be making my own topic for this as what I'm requesting isn't really the same as what the OP is suggesting, however I know that my topic will just be closed as a 'duplicate' of this one.
