    +1

When I leave an idle game running in the background all day, I don't want it to take priority over all the other games that I launch afterwards.

Why is this not a thing yet?

Like holy moly, this has been open for two years and should be an incredibly easy software addition.

    Still waiting for this feature

How is this not a 'basic' feature??  It seems if you have a feature that announces what you play it would be expected that you can add/remove what apps you consider worth sharing.  This is truely 101 type stuff

2 years and we're still waiting for this? Do the devs at discord even read these posts?

This should be easy to implement, keep pushing up

Not sure why this is still years in the making, but I'm going to add my bump here too.  Tools are not games, and we should be able to designate a "real" game from something that will take over and not let those "real" games from displaying.  No one can join me for FaceRig, or SoundPad, or 3DMark testing - it's definitely not a robust fix here.  A toggle, one or more binary if statements, and presto: No more unwanted games displaying on Discord.

    Would appreciate having this feature!

There is literally only one game in my library I need to signal status. And it's because it allows multiplayer invites via Discord channel and from obvious reasons it does not work when game activity is disabled.

I value my privacy, and I don't need my whole friend list to know what I am up to 24/7.

So either option for selected games only or maybe some 'mute gaming activity' button in the main interface would do it.

This has been a feature that I see heartfelt requests for over the last 5 years at least, so I'm doubtful they care, but I'm adding my voice.  I'd really like it to not pop up that I'm playing Scrivener or some other non-game tool all the time.

If I have to enable game activity detection every time I start playing an actual game, then disable it every time I stop, then I might as well just leave the feature off and send a message to the channels I'm in every time.  It's just as inconvenient.

Just so everyone following this knows, I submitted a support ticket for this a while back, and after lots of back and forth, the support rep ran out of excuses and finally said "I'll make sure to pass your idea about SteamVR launching instead of your other games to the team". If you want to see this change happen, go file a support request right now at https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. They're definitely not monitoring these threads.

I put in a support request, and they immediately closed it saying the proper response was to up vote this thread and move on. Considering we've been doing that for six plus years now, I think it's safe to say they don't care.

    Unbelievable..

Just sent my third or fourth Tweet at Discord. No response on any one of them.

You can't DM them either, you only get a bot response.

If you filter "Other" by threads with answers and sort by newest reply, they haven't responded to anything in six months. Most of the threads with responses have under 30-40 votes. So it's fair to say that they are simply don't care about this thread and never will implement this feature.

    We all need this feature.

Why are they not adding it?

    Add it?

Please add, this is such a miss. And there are NO workarounds for this one missing, no matter how I run certain things Discord picks it up.

Discord's development team is so spaghetti that they can't pull this basic feature off despite years of people asking for it. Shocking.

How is this still not a thing? I have to disable an entire feature of the application just to fix one minor application to not show.

    2
  • Bodhbh Dearg

Simple: They don't give a f**k, because they know most people won't bother to disable it, and it gives them valuable data to play with...

This is also important to me, I like letting people see what I'm playing so they can know if I'm likely to be contactable, and because when playing multiplayer games whether or not I might be able to play with them. Also sometimes when using tools like Scrivener because it likely means I'm writing. I have a commission open right now and I like them being able to see when I'm writing. But instead, everything gets overridden by Mr.Mine, the idle game I have sitting on my desktop. That has NOTHING to do with what I'm currently doing. We need to be able to at least control hierarchy.

could we at least implement certain verified games having more priority over others? so that if im running two games, i know which one is showing, not just the one thats most recent

  • FatalBert

This is a feature that should have been in the first release. Why are they not even acknowledging it?

At least say that you aren't going to address it.

This needs to happen. It's a major PITA and an issue in terms of privacy. No, we're not on facebook, twitter, or any other instagram (tone intended), so we don't need to broadcast it as a big thing that we have a simple tool/program/background game/other running.
So many times I had awkward situations with other people because discord decided to show things i didnt want it to show at the time (like when the feature was new-ish, i refused to play an online game with some people, claiming that i have stuff to do irl, but actually played sims instead. i even deleted that from the list in discord but guess what? SURPRISE! discord knows better). Turning the feature off completely is not an answer either.

Can someone finally look into this and give it an official response, or even better, an actual confirmation thgat this will be added (at least soon™)?

If nothing will happen with this request, I'm sure many of the people commenting here would be more than willing to partake in a staged s**tstorm about this issue being a huge deal and a privacy concern and whatnot. If discord doesn't want to bother doing it in a peaceful way, we'll find another.
Actually, anyone interested? we could start posting this on social media and tag discord AND any privacy interest groups, gaming/multimedia websites, government agencies, public customer rights groups, etc. Repeat until enough of a crapstorm builds up and discord is forced to act.

Edit: I don't want my friend see that I'm playing Fortnite

ElchMoose I've already been trying to reach them on Twitter, no response. DMs is just automated so no luck there either. Just created a general question support ticket, asking them to check out this suggestion. It's been two years of active pleading for this function. Yet, Discord is nowhere to be seen.

I can't believe this hasn't been implemented yet, and my main gripe isn't even what most people are mentioning here (which is also absolutely valid).
My work app (Altium Designer) shares the .exe name (X2.exe) as the game Elsword, causing Discord to think that's the game I'm playing. This proves that their detection is set to the .exe file name and it completely ignores the .exe description.
I'm kinda getting hopeless at this point but please add this feature. I've had my game status turned off for many months now simply because 8 hours a day, 5 days a week I'd be "playing" a game I've otherwise never heard of.
