Add an option to disable own screenshare preview
I was screen sharing a game with a friend recently and I noticed significant frame drops while I was doing so. I know that something that helped me reduce my frame drops when i used to stream on twitch was to disable the video preview of my stream in OBS. An option to disable your own video preview of your screenshare would probably help to reduce strain on people's CPUs while sharing their screen.
Just a side note that I am not talking about disabling someone elses screenshare to me, but my own screen being shared to my discord window while I am sharing.

yes cool idea 4 -
I agree - the CPU processing power is crazy sometimes. I'd say make it as a toggled switch to keep users from having to switch it everytime they get in a call.

I agree with this even a year later.

Honestly, this would be great. I have what i'm streaming running on a second monitor, so the preview is redundant, and when i was running with just one, i would have discord minimized on my pc and monitor chat through my phone. Preview basically just ate resources. Would be great to be able to toggle it off entirely.

Yee, sometimes my friends and I like to share the screen with each other while playing (we have 2 monitors, and we watch each other on them), but the preview of my own screen sharing seems a bit unnecessary in this case (additional resource consumption and smaller preview windows for my friends' screens). So, this will be so good option.

When playing some game where every player wants to stream their view, I don't want to fill my screen with my own preview. at the same time.

When streaming on my capture PC via Discord I see upwards of 30% GPU usage from Discord when the window is focused, but basically nothing when it isn't focused. This creates an inconsistency problem, with OBS and everything else running my GPU get's up to 90% usage when Discord is focused and I'm streaming. This leaves me no headroom to using something like RTX voice, or GPU intensive filters in OBS / FFmpeg. I don't need to see my own preview, and want that extra headroom available regardless of if Discord is currently focused or not.
You guys have already added the functionality to pause your own stream by removing focus from the window, I feel like it'd be fairly easy to give us a switch to keep it disabled even when Discord is focused.2 -
This suggestion is from 2 years ago and i can't even belive that isn't implemented yet. The scale of discord is too big to ignore this kind of things come on WAKE UP.

How has this not been addressed yet? What in the actual ****...

Must have feature for me. My friends like to play games together and stream each others second monitors so we can get multiple viewpoints. Having my own screen shown just takes up spaces and shrinks down the other screens, making it harder to view them.
It would be great to have this option.

It took a bit for it to be implemented on my discord (my bud had it 2 or 3 days before me) but when it becomes available, just right click your screenshare and a new option called "Show my screen share" will be right under the "Show non-video participants".
Good luck!
