It only works for direct messages or tags. We need it available for all messages. I have already spoken to reps of Discord they apologized that the service was not available and asked me to post here.

all it is is imitating the ping icon in the app. they won't change that.

Why so negative?, people like having the alert. I actually have people willing to leave the chat for other chat apps that already have this basic feature.

    Probably.

Go troll someone else, if this gets enough upvotes their opinion can change. If you don’t ask for anything, it’s always a no.

    Awesome, thanks.

If you've opted to get notifications for all messages somewhere in Discord, the red badge should take note of that and show when there are new notifications of any kind, not just DMs and @mentions. Otherwise it looks as though the app is ignoring the user setting and this looks like a bug.

Why is this feedback not getting more upvotes... currently discord only allows the red notification on the app icon for DMs and @mentions, and not for ALL MESSAGES. If you have a server that is very important (for example work related or competition related), having the red notification on the app icon would be very useful in case you overlook the notification via banner/lock screen.

It's pretty goofy that Discord doesn't make this an option. I also have people with my organization who are wanting to switch to a different app because of this.

People have been complaining about this for three years and it STILL isn’t fixed. Come on, Discord, if you really think people would be THAT bothered by badging for everything that they’ve *chose n* to have notifications left on for, make it a toggle option or something. (And why would it be annoying to have a small badge with a big number but a giant list of every notification on your lock screen wouldn’t be? That makes no sense.) I don’t want to see on my lock screen every single time someone asks a question about our animal crossing game nights, but I do want to know whether or not there has been discussion so I can check in when I get a chance. I don’t understand why this is so hard to understand.

I can see that on most channels this is undesirable. But there are some channels that are like chats but with additional features.

For example in games I play we have channels for gameplay and planning sessions. These need a persistent out-of-app notification.

We currently have to break into chats for this which means we lose the benefit of bots, etc.

I suggest that if this is added, it simply show the number of unread channels; not the number of messages or anything stupid like that.

My friends group uses this as a group chat option. I just cannot believe there is no option to show me a numbered badge on my app icon on my phone! I want to know if there has been discussion in my groups at a quick glance! There needs to be a number badge on the app icon for your phone screen. There also needs to be channel number badges to show how many unread messages there are in each separate chat. This isn't a difficult concept. WhatsApp did this just fine.

Also, as a couple of my channels have a larger amount of people, I can easily miss hundreds of unread messages while I'm at work. When I open a chat with unread messages, I would like to start reading the oldest unread messages first so I can catchup on the whole conversation. As of now, I have to scroll up and hope I recognize where I left off.

I’ve been told and I quote it’s “working as intended”; which is absolutely ridiculous. “This is to make sure that you won't be bugged for spam messages that shouldn't really concern you”. That’s a great sentiment, but literally there are already two individual and dedicated settings to specifically avoid that from happening (@ only, and mute all). Instead, they’ve made the decision on our behalf to make the button that they took time to program in (all messages) non functional. It makes zero sense. It’s like having a light switch that has on, off, and strobe settings, but the on position does absolutely nothing. If it was working as intended, the setting would actually accomplish what it’s labeled as.

Can't Discord easily make this an option that we can manually opt into for individual channels?

If we consider certain channels to be of notification-level importance, we can flip a switch and get badge icon "spam" for those channels we choose.

This option already exists, but it doesn't work due to Discord's removing the functionality of "All Messages". Individual channels can have specific notification settings separate from those of the mother server. Again, they've already built the light switch they just chose to disconnect it from the power grid for whatever reason.

Why is it that those with and adroit have a number on the APP showing messages but I can’t get that on my iPhone?

  • DarthSkadoosh

Anna Caldwell Because for whatever reason Discord has decided to not make Badge Notifications work on their iOS app except for dm's and @ tags. I've been complaining every way that I can to try and get them to get their act together. badge notifications have been a part of apps since literally the iphone launched but Discord has chosen for some insane reason to not implement that feature to their platform

Hello, I just spent a hour trying to fix this... Fortunately I found this topic, now I know nothing can be done...

I can't understand why we can't have this red badge on iphones... It would really be useful.

What can we do about this to make Discord change the feature ???

I found this thread while trying to figure out what I was doing wrong that I couldn’t get the badges working properly on iOS for a small chat server I use with my friends. Turns out the problem wasn’t with me...

Like others I found this thread while trying to figure out what I was doing wrong in not getting badge notifications. How ridiculous that this isn’t an option, never even occurred to me that they would intentionally omit it.

Why on earth does this not work? If we’ve set channels or an entire server to all messages, we should be able to see those as a red dot badge so we don’t forget to check…

+1 to this. If it were working as intended, I would expect that selecting the option to notify on all messages would behave the same as the option to notify on mentions, which is that any message that matches your notification settings should trigger a sound alert, a banner, and a badge to show that you have unread messages.

If anything the badge is the least spammy part of that; how does it make sense to trigger a sound and a banner but not the badge from the perspective of a concern over spamminess?

Are we still waiting for this to be a feature??? I rely on the notification dots and miss messages all the time without it!
