I would like to request Discord to be expanded just a bit to accommodate virtual LAN parties. I wrote an article on how to do it here: http://www.teamtidal.us/news/how-to-virtual-lan-party-with-discord
But it's not a streamlined process, and has some drawbacks.
There are two directions I would like to see this go, 1 can most likely be implemented with little effort, 2 would require more time and resources.
- Make the mobile app and desktop app "aware" of each other for the purpose of Virtual LAN partying and add one click functionality. Essentially, the mobile app becomes an out of bound video streaming device, but would be nice if it were integrated with the desktop app so it knows who is talking. All involved communicate through the discord desktop app, so we can still hear in game audio and communicate, but the video sharing occurs over mobile so we can all see each other. Just think of it as a video conference for gaming.
- This option would require all users involved to have a webcam, and allow multiple overlays of users video feeds. Think of it this way: Similar to how streamers usually stick themselves in the bottom right of a games stream; allow us to do that for multiple people in a virtual LAN party format.
