Exact search
Exact search would be nice to have, even as a filter, like exact:word.
Reasoning: Scenario 1 - I'm proofreading a novel, or website, or game text, or whatever. Submissions on a specific discord server (a couple of thousand so far). I find a misspelled common word. I'd like to check if it was already submitted: I can't, because due to approximate results thrown out, I literally get hundreds of results. All the other filters are useless in this case.
Scenario 2 - I'm moderating a server. I want to search the chat log for some words that we don't tolerate on the server. Some words throw out approximate results, again potentially thousands of them. Current filters useless again.
I'm sure there are other uses for this too. I'd also like to point out, that I'm not asking for partial vs exact word recognition, like 'dog' being found in 'doge', I'm talking about approximate vs exact word, like 'hers' found for 'heroes'.
If you'd like to see this implemented sooner rather than later, link the post in your discord groups, so others can come here and drop an upvote too - they'll only take it seriously if it reaches a few thousand votes.

I try to search "GMS" for "Global MapleStory," and the search only returns result for "GM" because it thinks I'm saying "GMs" like "Game Masters." It's infuriating. We genuinely need this to work because this is an official Discord server FOR Global MapleStory, not to mention checking for mentions in other official MapleStory servers - MapleStory Japan, namely.

Search could definitely use an upgrade. It doesn't seem to be popular enough, otherwise it would've gotten an update by now, at least for literal search.
Another problem: Files are displayed with names, but I can't search for them. If the poster decided to not mention anything that's in the files, or uploads the files separately, it's impossible to search for them.1 -
To everyone still adding comments here asking for them to hear you. Please share those comments and this link on your favorite server and ask people to upvote this instead. I'm sure a lot of people have come across this issue and are waiting for it to be fixed.

4 years, huh?
Guess they still need more time for this utterly herculean task.

At this point, I assume it's that Discord developers have taken too much of the hubris side of things, and not enough of the laziness side of programming. They'd rather reinvent the wheel than drop in someone else's solution, no matter how useful or efficient. "If it wasn't made here, we don't want it!"

How is this still not a thing. I am in a lot of programming and content creation discords. Do you know how many terms are similar to other terms and yet mean completely different things? For example, "map" could be referring to texture maps, mapped bones, navigational maps, UV mapping, etc… Getting results for "map" in every channel when I type an exact phrase like "not mapped" (e.g. searching an error message) helps me little.

Try searching the word "Channles" the result is nearly every single post in the discord, and less than 1% of them have the word channel, or channels or mention a chan or anything.
Discord CEO instead is focusing all his attention on forcing users to change their usernames, but maybe a better investment of that time would have been to start fixing all the broken crappy bugs that make Discord garbage. But Discord CEO is too egotistic to listen to users, he knows best.1 -
This is still an issue as of 5/15/2024 !!!

from the way things look to be it'll always be an issue because they just refuse to implement a normal search function

It is so weird that this isn't a feature. Out of habit I will search with quotation marks, which works in most places besides Discord, and then am disappointed when I can't find what I'm looking for.

Being an app developer myself I'd count this as a bug since the users clearly are not expecting this behaviour and we cannot work around it.
I submitted a bug report to them explaining this. I doubt they will care, but maybe it will open their eyes a little.
Maybe they their search system isn't optimized for exact search and the change would costs a lot of dev time, but I'd say it is still something they should consider since many game developers uses their product and they will want this feature, even if it is slower.
I also did a short discussion about this with ChatGPT. It might give some insight in the matter.

Apparently the mobile app has this now, have not tried it out yet. See Settings>App Settings>Appearance (why there?) at the bottom: https://i.imgur.com/6TyEtW7.png

Rabarber the mobile app's setting doesn't do anything, at least on my android phone. I've cleared cache, restarted app, And yeah, Appearance is a really strange place.

I'm so frustrated that this is still a problem after years and years. Discord has replaced forums in a lot of ways, so there's a lot of useful information to be found in Discord servers, but you can hardly search for any of it because of how imprecise Discord search is. We should be able to search for words like “controller” without seeing unrelated results for “control”.

GET RID OF LEMMA-SEARCHING!!!

Rabarber I think that setting is just for expanding this result number on mobile so it would say 1,084 Results instead of 1K results, I don't use mobile.
