Get Discord to do something about Article 13 (17)
To all at Discord, Inc.,
My name is Tom Lockwood and I currently live in the United Kindom and love using your service. Which is where this feedback starts.
Article 13 is a copyright law that currently got passed through the EU parliament, which was a law that many have called the 'meme ban'. The aim of this law was to implement better copyright protection to creators, but this backfires on them. Companies like YouTube will have to scan every single item that is uploaded in order to comply with these laws in the EU. This is, in effect, censorship.
Discord could be affected by this, much like YouTube and other like companies, start to control uploaded content from European users, thus removing our freedom again.
Even though it has passed through the parliamentary stage, there is still time to act. On April 9th, 2019, there will be a council vote on Article 13. This will be the final time we can save the internet we know and love.
What I ask is to add a small banner at the top of the Discord app, like the verify e-mail banners, and have text displaying links to https://saveyourinternet.eu and to Tweet about #SaveYourInternet.
Together we can make a difference.
Thank you,
Tom Lockwood
