I want to use my own completely self-written discord client, and I think it would be exciting to see how far client usability, client speed, etc., could be pushed if it became a more competitive, more collaborative area. Discord doesn't have to make its own client's source public but I suspect lots of open source projects would spring up all pushing discord in good directions. I suspect the current ToS may be banning this because it can be used to circumvent Nitro nags. Just write a new ToS that says "custom clients must do x, y, z,...." about how to advertise Nitro to users of the client.
