Direct Message menu having folders that can be hidden when desired
So not just about server organization, but I like to keep my discord tidy as possible, and since im an artist, I would like to keep my clients in a direct message folder so i can hide them and unhide as i want to message them. That way I could keep my 3 friends on my top list, and all of my cleints in a whole different section! otherwise when i close the direct message conversation, the chat jsut desapears into the void and i can never find them again if they dont message me back.
Also we can think on even people receiving lots of conversations form servers. such as the clients that receive lots of portfolios from artists. that way they could keep them in sections, like the style, the skill, for the future.
There is load of possibilities that can help any type of people that receive dms from different people, this was an example that would work wonderfully for me. but im sure it can help all of us.
we all love discord and thats why we want to make him be the best of the best platform ever.

I was about to send my own post regarding this feature, but turns out someone had this idea already
Having DM folders would be so useful for grouping friends and other dms, even if its as simple as this mock up i made

pinning and groups/sections would be very helpful

I know that the server folders are here. My suggestion is about user folders.

Hi there,
I certainly agree! As a community owner my DMs can get spammed up quite a lot and I lose track of where my friends are within my DMs. Being able to categorise/pin friends at the top of my DMs is definitely something I would fine useful.
+1, Have a nice day.

Can a dev confirm if this will ever be implemented?

Now that server folders are here, we are not so far of the user folders! which would be a dream come true, i love discord so much and I thank all the team for listening to our requests and beeing so in touch with all of us. I hope user servers come as fast as possible now that they prove it was possible to do servers!
Im not a server person myself because I found those icon images quite sturbon that burst all the asthetic I try to keep, with this new feature i can now hide all of them and keep the ones i like where i want them! (soon enough wwe will be able to put an image as the icon folder, and I'll just be a happy bean.
Still, user folders might be easier to accomplish! IDK, but in fact, keeping all those people in a place would just be a life saver. specially when you are not friends with them and if you clear them out, they will just disapear in the void. Ive lost some clients like that specially bcs they also change names frequently and can also change their #number which makes it harder to find.
Anyway, thank you all very much for supporting the idea!

Looks like I'm not the only one who had the idea to create an user folder! It's better to have your friends sometimes in a folder, rather than them getting scattered off by DM spams/talking to anyone.
If this dream comes true, idk what I will do. I love this idea.~John

Being able to organize DMs into folders and have the ability to bing those folders or DMs themselves would be a very much welcomed feature.

I would really love this feature!!! I would be so useful for keeping people organized

I'd like to be able to organize my friends list and DMs into folders as well. I'd like to separate my gaming friends from my work contacts from my IRL friends.

I'm just curious, do these get visibility and responses? I've been looking for a way to do this for ages, as I forget who people are, how I connected with them, and grouping them would be a huge benefit.

It's now the 30th of May, 2023. I can't believe this feature was first requested by ShinoBF on the 19th of April, 2019 and still Discord has not considered adding this feature.
It can't be too complex a feature to add if folders already exist for servers.
I was once told Direct Messages are like mini-servers.
So, why hasn't this already been implemented?
Folks use Discord for so much MORE than gaming now...- You have families using it to stay in touch over long distances.
- You have secondary and college students using it for school and study groups.
- You have digital artists using it to stay in contact with their clients.
- You have Twitch streamers using it to connect more with their audiences directly.
- You have game studios using it to work remotely with their developer and community teams; all the while staying in touch with their fan bases and content creators.
- You have companies like Steel Series, Elgato, OBS, StreamElements, using it to stay in touch with their fan bases and content creators.
- You have every day corporate professionals using it to stay in touch working remotely versus using other platforms for instant communication.Wouldn't all these folks I mentioned above benefit from being able to organize their DMs and Group DMs? There has to be more than those of us who have posted here and upvoted here (up to now) that would also want this feature implemented.

This would be very useful to organize DM groups and user conversations.

It would be great if it were real 2 -
love the idea

cool 2 -
Yes upvote this shit..
2 -
Do you mean the same way they implemented folders with servers?
2 -
Yes, in a similar way to the server folders.
Ideally this feature would come with a more advanced search, for example being able to search for a friend in only one specific folder.
2 -
THIS.
I want to keep my close friends in a folder, and my art clients in another. It's a headache trying to remember clients' usernames through the huge friends list you end up having other time.
2 -
This needs to happen! I want to categorize my IRL friends, online friends and family.
Also being able to rename them. Just copy how Steam does it!2 -
This would be a very very good idea to have. and very useful
2 -
I'm gonna agree, it would be super useful.
2 -
Yeah, was just looking to see if this was suggested. Server grouping is fine, but I have a lot more DM conversations to organize than servers at the moment...
2 -
unfortunately this is not getting enough visibility or interactions. Well, enough to make discord care about this so essencial feature.
I woudl love this to happen really really bad, since discord would be one of the first platforms to implement it, and it would just be so much easier for everyone's lifes, peofessionals, students, this would just be the best thing it could happen to anyone who interacts with enough people on the platform!
This is a feature for the people who use discord the most, pls make it happen. Can a thousand people just see alreadya nd scream at discorddddd! plsss

Pls add. would be very useful for business management/interactions
