Have to say, the new design is really distasteful. I am not a fan of the overwhelming roundness everywhere, and I really don't like how DM notifications look like server notifications *plus* the red number icon, which is now super obvious instead of being nicely tucked away.
The older, square "New Unreads" notifications were a lot more pleasing to see than the new round ones. Almost every social platform keeps updating to be rounder thinking it's "sleeker." It really isn't, it makes me feel like I'm in some weird, over-simplified, over-minimalist world. Subtler curves were sleek and didn't feel like they invaded my privacy too much if I was in a different channel.
Making the pin/mute notifications button in channels more obvious is also highly annoying. If someone mutes a channel, they don't want to be reminded that it's been muted - it would be a massive improvement if the heading bar was thinner/smaller like before.
In fact, the whole header/search bar area when reading a channel looks to have been increased in size as well, in DMs as well this appears. It stands out and is visually displeasing.
Hopefully this reaches someone who can take these criticisms into the next UI update.
