Would this be a feature limited by member count?

The way we do it is to have a role for each game people on our server play, so you can ping that role.  Like a Borderlands2 role.  Then people can opt in if they want the pings.  Otherwise the pings won't bug people who don't want them.

Roles are too fiddly. You'd need an admin to create a role for every game people have and a bot to allow people to assign themselves said roles.

I disagree.  If the community's organized around specific games (such as the ones I run), role management is not difficult at all.  If it's a huge community, then yes, you might want to use a bot, but even still, that's automatic once you get it set up right.  But in the use case where you want to ping anyone for any conceivable game, then I'd say that goes beyond what Discord ought to do, both in terms of complexity and in terms of privacy.  Just my view, but I wouldn't support such broad, invasive features.  YMMV.

You can always disable notifications (both as a server setting and as a user setting), just like roles mention or @everyone / @here. As for privacy, you don't know who owns the game and who gets notified, so what's the privacy problem?

Here's why I thought about it:

We run a small server of our group of friends (12 users), it's not centered around a specific game / games. If I feel like playing some Borderlands 2 I can just ping the game and the relevant people will be notified. Right now we're doing a chain ping where we ping 5-6 people in a single message to ask if anyone feels like playing said game. Or (and that's something I added recently) use a role. But the roles require that I create them and use a bot so people can assign roles to themselves.

Honestly, this is such a good idea, and I'm disappointed that it got so many downvotes. Thing is, there's no reason the admin should have to do anything other than enable game-based @ mentions on their server. The game library already exists. It could just plug into that, and the users could decide whether to opt in to whether or not they should get the notifications from their library. And this wouldn't have to be for all servers. It could be limited to members of a given channel.
