General customization within the application, and maybe less bloat?
I feel as if it were to be nice to add the ability to change/alter the CSS in slight ways to maybe change the background color to something that isn't light grey, or pure white.
I know we technically can do this, but it's against the terms of service; so maybe the Discord application can be made to be changed within it's own settings?
Adding access to maybe even community made scripts for the client as well. Making it to where your application is more open to the world, rather than having it locked down by your terms-of-service. Trust me, I see nothing wrong with having it locked down, but I feel as you'd have more backing from your community if you were to allow for people to customize it more, expecially the large community that you already have that enjoy changing the little things about the application.
Also as the Discord app is becoming more and more bloated, I often find myself looking at alternatives like TeamSpeak 3, as the application is using up more than 200MB of memory. It also uses more of my CPU than I'd really like it to, and that could be down to the servers that I have connected to my account, but not that many of them are really "big."The most that I could think that I have is about 50 people in one server, and I only have seven servers.
Maybe making a client without the added bloat of the games store, server discovery, or even the friend activity. I never really find myself using either, as I would really enjoy supporting Discord, but money is tight, and if I ever get the chance it would definitely be of a Nitro subscription.
I really think that giving your community a more lightweight version of the application would really help us with lower hardware out, and make it more accessible to even more of your community.

changing the background would be easy adding the theme "custom" with a few color pickers etc

I feel like that would be a great addition to the base of the Discord client.
Most of the time, the already chosen default colors tend to depress me more often than not.
You could also have it fit with the current theme that your operating system is running.
I know grey/black/white is already like theme neutral, but it gives a little bit more control of what you have set for your PC.
It would be nice to be able to change the color, even if you didn't want to.1 -
yeah it would be cool to add a custom background color or maybe image. Like they could make a template where people could put images onto and it would be nice. Ive seen people doing this with a modification but it isn't allowed so I don't wanna attempt it.

Hopefully the suggestion picks up some more traction and they take it into consideration! It's always been something that I've had in thought to suggest, I just never realize that I could! :)
Also as it does suggest in the TOS that modifying Discord using patchers or etctera can lead to a ban so I cannot reccomend doing it, but they have some very cool ideas that Discord could maybe take note from and pull into their vanilla version of the Discord application.
Edit : I keep reading in other threads on Reddit and even on the Discord suggestion website that you should use the Chrome version of Discord for better performance, as so that kind of bothers me. Chrome in itself uses more ram and cpu usage, adding Discord only amplifies this.
So I do not think that using Discord inside of a browser would be the best alternative to a unbloated version of Discord.

Could be easily abused.
