Improved "Manage Roles" Permissions

Hello!

Currently the "Manage Roles" permission can give users a few different powers that I believe should be separated. For example if you have "Rank1, Rank2, Rank3" (rank1 being highest and 3 being lowest) and you give Rank1 the Manage Roles permission, they will be able to assign users with Rank3 and Rank2, and also create roles. Sure, you can do your best to make sure they can't create roles with permissions you don't want them to have, however this is something that users can use to clutter up a server. It would be nice if that were separate. Also, it would be nice if we could have more control over what roles can be assigned. Such as making it so Rank1 can only assign Rank3, and not Rank2. I have tried to make a role in between Rank3 and Rank2 which has only the Manage Roles permission and given it to Rank1; however even though it's bellow Rank2, it being assigned to Rank1 still allows Rank1 to promote users up to Rank2. (Sorry if that sounded a bit confusing.)

Yes it is possible to get around this with server bots, personally I've done so with the Dyno Bot. Though it would be nice to have this simple feature as part of the default discord settings, it would be much simpler to set up and for your discord members to use.

    I agree with you.

     

    To simplify:

     

    0. Owner can do everything and has "75" access to give roles.

    1. Admin role has "50" access to give roles, and to receive this role somebody with "75" access must grant it first.

    2. Moderator role has "30" access to give roles, and requires "50" to handle this role.

    3. Advisor role has no access to give roles, however needs "75" access for this role to be given or taken away.

     

    So even if Admin is two steps above Advisor, he will not be able to hand out the otherwise powerless Advisor role, or to take it away from the current members owning the role.

     

    This has been done on other many successful community platforms that have opted for advanced permission systems and I highly recommend this for Discord as well.

    Also if the “Manage Roles” perm was split into creating roles, hoisting roles, and adding roles. Especially on large servers, it would be nice for members to be able to assign themselves preset roles without a bot and also not being able to create new roles/modify existing ones.
