Massive CPU usage

I am currently running the latest version of Discord (as of august 19th, 2020) on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4 on a later 2013 27-inch iMac with a quad core intel cpu and 32 gb of ram and the built in graphics card. I have noticed that there are constantly massive spikes in cpu usage, sometimes going up to 90% and completely freezing my computer. I tested this with hardware acceleration, and it's worse than if you have it off. I've noticed most of this occurs while on call or when loading large numbers of messages at once; however, on occasion it'll just randomly spike in the cpu while running in the background, both on and off call. After a few minutes of Discord being on the internal fan runs very fast. While playing a game it has the same issues, minus the fan.
