Add end to end encryption [Voice and Text]
TL;DR Discord, please make sure nobody can spy on our private communications by implementing end to end encryption.
Discord's mobile app has gotten really good and it's at the point that Discord has become the most convenient way to talk to my friends. Discord is more than just a place to hang out now, it's a place where people have intimate conversations with the people closest to them.
But unlike the platforms Discord displaces, it lacks end to end encryption (E2E). Please implement E2E. It's not just about Discord staff. Having E2E gives Discord the ability to avoid, willingly or unwillingly, participating in government mass surveillance.
Not all conversations on Discord need to be encrypted. Conversations on servers, especially large ones, are essentially public. For text, it seems fair to use E2E on server channels that only a few people can access, or maybe exclude servers from E2E completely. But do include group messages and private messages. For voice, channels in servers and calls should be encrypted as most calls involve few people (but there could also be a maximum number of users for which E2E is used).
It's not fair to ignore that Discord has users that use it to engage in harassment and other bad things. And that Trust and Safety works hard to protect us. To counteract harassment, when a user uses the reporting feature it can share chat history with Discord staff. I'm sure there are many other things Discord can also do to keep users safe while keeping our communications secure at the same time.
Keep us, and our conversations, safe Discord, ty.

I would love to see this as well. Has there been any update to this?

I would like to see this as well. It is possible, by the way (element allows you to use end to end encryption).
