Obey MacOS/Windows Notification Do Not Disturb Settings
It is disruptive to be working, set do not disturb for the whole device, then realize discord doesn't respect the system setting. Instead I have to give special treatment to discord, fumbling around the settings both with turning it on and off. I also can't do anything smart with discord's busy state like have it turn on/off with a Siri command, or turn off after an hour, until this evening, or until tomorrow.
I am not really sure if discord on windows does the same thing, there is a similar do not disturb feature for windows notifications, if you aren't already doing this it would give a lot of sanity to people like me who have been working from home for months.

Please, this seems like a pretty basic feature for a chat app. I have Windows Focus Assist set to priority only when I'm on important calls, but I have to remember to quit Discord or I will continue to hear notification sounds.

The fact that Discord doesn't obey DnD is one of the most upsetting issues with the app. I really hope the correction of this problem is high on the priority list.

This is an annoying problem for a chat app to keep making sounds while I clearly am trying to block all notifications.

100%

PLEASE make this a feature

It is completely ridiculous that Discord does not obey the system do not disturb
6 -
it really bugs me that Discord doesn't follow the system settings like this. Everything else on my Mac respects the DnD option and silences any notification sounds
4 -
ditto everything already said. It is inconvenient to have to turn on dnd on the system and the discord app. Plus sometimes I don't want to show as dnd in discord, I just don't want notification sounds playing when I am streaming music or videos or w/e
4 -
is there any roadmap or status about this from them?

Discord is the only app that still plays sound notifications when DND is on. Please fix this, please and thanks.

This seems pretty straightforward to implement — the Electron docs for notifications says to use electron-notification-state to check whether Do Not Disturb/Quiet Hours is on.
Fixing this issue will make Discord integrate more nicely with the operating system and prevent confusion about Discord notification settings. Users expect all notifications to be silenced when Do Not Disturb is on, so playing a sound while this setting is on when a user receives a message for example is unexpected and frustrating.

This should not even be an option for discord this should be given by the operating system in my opinion
WhatsApp for Mac is the same crap

One year later and the issue still hasn't been resolved. Makes you wonder...

I just set up a new custom focus to try and zone into some code and within 15 minutes I'm irked by discord making noises in the background and having to manually go put it on busy
Also noticed it happening with WhatsApp as Daniel Gran mentioned3 -
Mattermost, another Electron app, incorporated this feature a few months ago. Here is the pull request for reference: https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/pull/1629
Looking through this PR, it does seem rather trivial to add the dependencies and suppress certain notification sounds (or just mimic the behavior of the Do Not Disturb Discord status) if the OS focus mode is enabled.
I'm sharing this highly concrete example in case it inspires some dev to take a crack at it.

Yes, please. Trying to study for finals!

Please, oh please.

Definitely echoing what everyone else has said so far. At a basic level allowing the operating system DND to work with Discord.
AFTER that is finished... working on a discord app specific DND. Example of what I mean is a customized DND where we can pick and choose certain servers to mute / keep unmuted when DND is turned on.
BONUS POINTS if we could choose to only mute specific "roles" or "channels" within those servers since some roles and channels are "essential" updates and others are not.
I work from home and have my personal computer close by so it would be nice to still get "essential" notifications during work hours, but also silence all "non-essential" notifications so it's not so distracting.

100% agree with ChalupaBatman on the option to toggle certain servers on and off via a DND setting
We use discord for both work and personal and being able to just get notifications from work based servers while I am working would be great
Also, great name. I miss The League3 -
Why still not read "Do Not Disturb" mode from the different operating systems SUPPORTING this kind of features instead of forcing your user to enable it BOTH on Discord AND the OS ?????
1 -
+1 would love to see support for this feature in future releases

2 years and this bug is still not fixed. Outrageous! When you write an app for a specific OS please kindly follow the guidelines. Discord sounds are giving me anxiety. When I enable Do Not Disturb mode I MEAN IT!

Still an issue!! I made sure to rule out everything related to my particular machine and OS build with technical support and even tried experimental builds with Discord support to no avail! Please please make this happen. Unusable otherwise (or requires quitting app every time I am done actively using it).

This is still missing in 2023 😭

I have an interview today where I will need to screenshare. Window's "Do not disturb" only disables Discord pop-ups, not the noise. I don't really mind the notification on the task bar, but that should probably be muted too.
tl;dr: This would be really useful today...

This issue still exists on macOS. I want to be able to mute all notifications by going into do not disturb, not just hide the notification displaying
