Using the up arrow to edit a message should allow you to go further back than one message.
As most people know, you can use the up arrow to quickly edit the last message you sent.
I think there should be a short time after you have entered the edit window of the message where if you press the up arrow again, it will move up again by another message.
There are times when I send multiple messages in quick succession, and I make a mistake in one of the messages that isn't the most recent one, so I try to press the up arrow to go up to it, but obviously I can only go back to the most recent message. Then I have to go through the effort of getting my mouse and moving to the three dots to open the message edit window and fix whatever mistake I made.
I am lazy and I would like to be able to go back and edit recent messages that are not the absolute most recent without having to use my mouse. I don't care if there is a limit, like you can only go back by five messages, or something strange like that, I would just like to be able to go back and edit messages without having to put in the effort of using my mouse.
TL;DR - I want to be able to quickly edit messages above the most recently sent message without using the mouse.

as a cmd line user, this would be a very welcome and familiar feeling update 2 -
Yes! This would be great to have, I can’t tell you how many times I press the up arrow multiple times thinking that it would go up more than just a single message.

totally agree. there's no point limiting it to one, the key then just does nothing afterwards
