With cross-play growing fast on consoles and PC. Discord should really try to strike a deal with Microsoft and Sony in the next generation.

So this is something that has popped up on this sub a lot I know. But I think it's a good idea to bring it up before the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch.

With games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Rocket League and many more starting to support cross-platform play, making it possible to play with your friends regardless of what console you or they have, a reliable form of communication between players on different platforms is really starting to amp up.

Historically software companies have been able to strike deals with the console-manufacturers to be able to distribute their products, integrated with the platform. The best example of this is obviously Spotify.

Having both a deal with Microsoft and Sony at the same time in order to make music-streaming possible through your console while playing games at the same time. This is a huge deal, not only for PlayStation and Xbox to be able to give users this feature but also for Spotify, being able to own the market for music-streaming on consoles.

This is what I believe is the best future for Discord as well. Being able to voice-chat with friends on different platforms while playing a game together without having to rely on the janky built-in voice chat of the games (looking at you Fortnite...).

This as well as the fact that this could be a huge increase of users to Discord as every console owner would get a Discord logo infront of them and possibly create an account and then go on to using it on their computers for more things than just gaming.

I think it's the best way forward for everyone, and could bring both Discord, Xbox and PlayStation some well deserved praise for giving users what they want.

It's more likely you'd see discord on Xbox. Ntm that would be an overall better choice anyways. Sony hasn't been pro future and doesn't want to do anything with cross progression, cross platform play, or cross Gen. Microsoft have been pushing to make last Gen, this Gen, and pc interconnected. Pretty much all the games Microsoft pushes out are either a. On the Xbox pass or b. Are cross platform. I would actually like to see a stock version of discord on Xbox but three's no telling what Microsoft would want to do. Ntm they are still using the ui from the xbone so that already has cross platform communication
